Today 20th March, distinguish citizens of the world it is no news that 2019-nCoV, in the last few weeks has seriously impacted the world in negative light.
We have assessed the economic, social, religious and health implication of 2019-nCoV. The consequence is grievous among the very advanced countries of the world.
As active players in global advancement, our heart and prayers are with the people of China, Italy, UK, US, Iran, Japan South Korea, India, Singapore and all affected countries of the world.
We note with concern cases within the African region. Our fears and fidgeting is associated to the mechanism in the spread of the 2019-nCoV.
Considering, that the African society is naturally communal, it is crystal clear that if not careful handled the virus may soon ravage the entire continent. More so, considering the challenges African countries face in the health sector.
WAYC, is hence appealing to WHO, UN, AU and all regional organization in Africa to step up their games. A more proactive care is required. The government of each States must realize that its fundamental values is to ensure safety of lives of her citizens.
WAYC demands accountability in any counterparts funds received by Government and organisations to combat and curtail the spread of 2019-nCoV.
It is on credible information that China has not recorded a new case of the 2019-nCoV, following practical actions. Africans must emulate all best hygiene practices and all government within the continent must demonstrate strength in character and capacity.
We wish to thank the government of the most populous Africa country; Nigeria, in its mechanism put in place to curtail the virus. WAYC is aware of the crucial roles of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and the collaborating efforts of Health practitioner and other civil societies. The current government policy on churches and other public places is commendable. However, WAYC believes that before hand there should have been more proactive measures ahead to curtail and possible contact of 2019-nCoV.
About 10 days ago we had about five countries” with the virus, WHO’s Africa chief Dr. Matshidiso Moeti told reporters.
Now 34 of Africa’s 54 countries have cases, with the total close to 650. It’s an “extremely rapid evolution,” from the report of WHO’s Africa chief Dr. Matshidiso Moeti.
We appreciate the proactive measures of Ghana Government. Our hearts and prayers are with South Africa — where the number of cases jumped to 150 from 116. WAYC, totally support the Uganda, President Yoweri Museveni declaration barring attendance at bars and clubs, calling limiting “merry-making” a new front in virus prevention.
"We admit that coronavirus may have started in Wuhan China but as a body, we consider it as a test against all humanity.”
In conclusion WAYC, stands with the entire world in this trying times. Its a moment to test our bonds, a moment to share love, a moment to reflect on sustaining the universe. As part of the necessary efforts to curtail 2019-nCoV, WAYC, advises all youths and citizens to avoid pressing the panic button. We equally advise that citizens follow the directive of government and adhere strictly.
