The State Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Oluseye Olujimi has urged Nigerians to keep faith and hope in the process as there is light at the end of the tunnel. Olujimi stated this in a statement released on Monday morning to mark the 2023 democracy day celebration across Nigeria.
The Ifedore born politician stated that the sustainability of the nascent Nigerian democracy since 1999 is a pointer to the fact that the future poses great for the country. "After battling military rule for a long while, we seem to be growing in our democracy. Despite the inherent flaws in our democratic process, we have had elections since 1999 and this is no mean feat. It is now left to us to make sure that the dividends of democracy gets to the people, as politicians saddled with the responsibility of safeguarding this legacy." the statement read.
Speaking on the significance of the date, Olujimi said "Patriots fought and laid down their lives to give us the freest and fairest election ever conducted in Nigeria but the hopes and belief was lost in the annulment of the election. Chief MKO Abiola would be happy that the democracy he died for has come to stay."
