- Says Screening Committee Asked Him To Take a Bow Because Of His Antecedents.
The leading aspirant in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, under the All Progressives Party(APC), Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, has, again, assured his teeming followers of clinching the party's ticket at the primaries slated for 20th, April 2024.
In a statement released by Oluwagbenga Ajongbolo, the spokesperson, Mayowa Akinfolarin Campaign Organization, while speaking with newsmen at the media center of APC at the party's secretariat in Abuja, after his screening, Akinfolarin said he is confident of winning the ticket and leading the party to victory come November. The former lawmaker, who was accompanied to the screening venue by his staunch supporters, said he has what it takes and has done enough to be the candidate of the party in the next Ondo elections.
‘I had a very fruitful and meaningful interaction with the screening committee. As a matter of fact, the committee asked me to take a bow because of my antecedents. And truly, my antecedents are enough to speak for me. To have contested elections six times and won five out of them is a testament of my relationship with my people.’
Responding to questions on the declaration that the number one seat in Ondo is not available for anyone else except the governor, Akinfolarin said he is not bothered about such statement.
‘It is the personal opinion of the governor. He has every right to say the seat is not vacant. However, I am very prepared to take over from him. I will be the next governor of Ondo State come February 2025 by the grace of God.
On the rumour on stepping down for another aspirant, the two-term deputy speaker queried why the most experienced out of the contestants will leave his ticket for another. ‘Look at my journey politically and how I have traversed the political landscape of Ondo State, I am not an aspirant to step down for anybody and I cannot be used. I have enough experience to lead the state. These rumours are not unexpected in election season'
Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin, an indigene of Odigbo in the southern senatorial district of Ondo State, was once Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Safety in Nigeria’s House of Representatives.
