Jumoke Akindele Mourns Olasimi Akindele-Odumbaku, Describes Her As Selfless And Compassionate

Former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mrs. Olasimi Akindele-Odumbaku, describing her as a compassionate, selfless and generous woman whose impact transcended family, friendship and politics.

In a heartfelt tribute posted on her Facebook page on Thursday afternoon, Akindele said she was devastated by the news of Olasimi’s passing, noting that the deceased was a warm, caring and loving personality who touched countless lives through her kindness and unwavering support for others.

According to her, Olasimi was more than a friend, recalling how their relationship blossomed after discovering they shared the same surname. She said the deceased subsequently embraced her as a sister, a bond strengthened by longstanding ties between their families.

Akindele described the late Olasimi as a dependable confidant and counsellor who stood firmly by her during one of the most challenging periods of her political career, particularly during the crisis that threatened her position as Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly in 2016.

“She was more than an ally. She was a sister and a counsellor,” Akindele stated.

The former Speaker further noted that Olasimi was known for her willingness to assist people in need, often making personal sacrifices without hesitation.

“She never asked if she had the time. She simply asked if you needed her, and then she was there,” she said.

Akindele said the deceased lived a life defined by generosity, service and genuine concern for others, adding that her legacy would continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.

While extending condolences to the husband of the deceased, Cardinal Odumbaku, her children, the Akindele family of Akunnu Akoko and the people of Akokoland, Akindele thanked them for what she described as the gift of a remarkable woman whose life enriched many others.

She also sympathised with friends and political associates of the deceased, including former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, whom she acknowledged as a leading figure among Olasimi’s associates.

Reflecting on the life of the deceased, Akindele said Olasimi demonstrated that the true measure of life lies not in its length but in the impact it leaves behind.

She prayed for the repose of her soul, describing her passing as a painful loss but expressing confidence that her legacy of kindness, wisdom and generosity would endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
