Akingboye Family Unveils Burial Programme For Former Ondo SDP Governorship Candidate

The family of the late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA) has released the official programme for his burial, with a five day lineup of religious, cultural and commemorative activities scheduled to hold in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

Otunba Akingboye, a former governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, died at the age of 60. He is being remembered by family, friends and associates as a man of service, compassion and unwavering commitment to the development of his community and the state.

According to the burial programme issued by the Akingboye Family, the ceremonies will begin on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, with a Cultural Parade and Road Walk (Ogwegwe), departing from Jimba Residence, New Garage, Okitipupa, at 7:00 a.m. Traditional rites will follow at his residence at 10:00 a.m., while a Service of Songs will commence at 4:00 p.m. and continue till dawn.

Activities on Thursday, September 3 will begin with the departure of the corpse from the mortuary at 10:00 a.m. A lying in state will be held at the SDP Ondo South Secretariat, beside the main market on Hospital Road, Okitipupa, at 10:30 a.m., followed by another lying in state at the family house on Ewi Street, Old Garage, at 12:00 noon.

A Christian Wake Keep is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the deceased’s residence, 3 Jimba Street, New Garage, Okitipupa, while traditional rites and a cultural night will take place from 8:00 p.m. until dawn.

The funeral service will hold on Friday, September 4, at the Apostolic Faith Church, behind Ogudubuja High School, Okitipupa, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at his residence by 12:00 noon, while guests will be entertained at the Fiesta Events Centre, Bye Pass, Okitipupa, from 12:30 p.m. The dress code for the day is Black, Gold and White.

Traditional funeral rites will conclude on Saturday, September 5, with a final family meeting at 7:00 a.m.

The burial ceremonies will be rounded off on Sunday, September 6, with a Special Family Thanksgiving Service at the Apostolic Faith Church, Ogudubuja Street, Okitipupa, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the launch of the OBA Foundation Project at the late politician’s residence on Jimba Street, New Garage, by 2:00 p.m.

In a special invitation signed on behalf of the family by Samuel Akingboye, the family called on friends, associates, political leaders, traditional rulers and members of the public to join them in celebrating the life and legacy of the late Otunba Akingboye.

Described as “A Life That Mattered,” the late politician’s memorial carries the biblical inscription from Proverbs 10:7: “The memory of the righteous is a blessing.

The funeral is expected to attract prominent political figures, traditional rulers, religious leaders and well wishers from across Ondo State and beyond, reflecting the enduring impact of the late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye’s contributions to public service and community development.
