ABUJA — A major political development unfolded on Monday as the National Vice Chairman (South West) of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Wolimoh Olajide Epe, resigned from the party, citing what he described as its lack of political ambition, weak national outlook and inability to evolve into a formidable platform for governance.
Epe, in a resignation letter addressed to the National Chairman of the PRP and copied to the National Secretary, announced his immediate resignation from both his position and membership of the party.
The former party chieftain said his decision followed extensive consultations with his supporters, political leaders and trusted associates.
According to him, the decision was taken after careful reflection on the future of his political career and the aspirations of those he represents.
“This decision was not made lightly. After extensive consultations with my supporters, guidance from my political leaders and advice from trusted allies, I have concluded that it is in my best interest and in the interest of the people I represent to step aside from the party,” he stated.
Reflecting on his journey in the PRP, Epe expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it offered him, noting that he served in several strategic capacities, including Committee Member, National Youth Leader and, most recently, National Vice Chairman for the South West.
He, however, said many of his supporters had repeatedly questioned the party’s ability to compete effectively in Nigeria’s political landscape.
According to him, the PRP has increasingly been viewed as a platform for political discourse rather than one genuinely positioned to win elections and provide governance.
Epe also criticised what he described as the party’s inability to transform into a truly national political movement.
He argued that the PRP continues to be perceived as regionally driven, leaving members from other parts of the country with the impression that they are symbolic participants rather than equal stakeholders.
He maintained that the party had missed several opportunities to expand its national appeal and strengthen its relevance across the federation.
The former South West Vice Chairman disclosed that he would announce his next political destination in the coming days, expressing optimism that his future platform would better align with his political vision and aspirations.
Despite his departure, Epe wished the leadership and members of the PRP well and urged the party to reflect on the issues he raised with a view to repositioning itself as a more inclusive and nationally competitive political organisation.
His resignation is expected to fuel fresh political realignments ahead of future electoral contests, particularly in the South West, where he has remained an influential figure within the party.
