Jenyo Congratulates Adeleke, Commends Osun Voters for Defending Their Mandate

The Osun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Rev. Dr. Bunmi Jenyo, has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, attributing the victory to the intervention of God and the determination of the people of the state to defend their votes.

Adeleke, the candidate of the Accord Party, was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), securing 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

Jenyo, in a congratulatory message made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday, said the outcome of the election could not have been achieved without what he described as the workings and intervention of the Almighty God.

The commissioner, who is an indigene of Ila-Orangun, also congratulated the people of Osun State for what he described as the successful defence of their mandate through the ballot box, despite alleged vote buying, intimidation, harassment, violence and other political manoeuvres during the electioneering period. He commended the electorate for remaining resolute and protecting their votes until the final declaration.

According to him, Adeleke’s re-election represents a clear expression of the people’s desire for continuity, adding that the outcome was a victory for what he described as truth, development and good governance over propaganda and political manipulation. He said the people had demonstrated that their votes remained a powerful instrument for determining the direction of governance when properly protected.

Jenyo also commended INEC and the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, as well as the Local Government Returning Officers across the state, for their roles in the conduct and collation of the election. The result was formally declared at the collation centre in Osogbo in the early hours of Sunday, August 16, with Adeleke emerging ahead of Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes.

The commissioner further saluted the courage of Osun voters for supporting what he called the continuity agenda of the Adeleke administration, expressing confidence that the governor would consolidate on his achievements during his second term. He prayed for divine wisdom, strength and greater capacity for the governor to deliver more democratic dividends to the people of the state.

Jenyo described Adeleke as a “talk-and-do Governor”, “Imole” and “bulldozer”, saying the governor’s re-election had demonstrated the confidence reposed in him by the electorate.

He said, “Congratulations to the talk-and-do Governor, the Imole and the bulldozer, Asiwaju Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. Osun has spoken, standing solidly behind your continuity in office till 2030. May God give you strength, more wisdom and excellence spirit for the delivery of many more democracy dividends.”

“Congratulations to Osun State. Congratulations to Nigeria’s democracy,” he added.

The commissioner’s message comes amid reactions to Adeleke’s victory, which has been widely described as significant ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governor has also dedicated his victory to God and the people of Osun State, while calling for peace and unity across the state following the election.
