Ondo TakeItBack Movement Condemns Rising Insecurity, Calls for Government Action

The Ondo State chapter of the TakeItBack Movement has strongly condemned the recent rise in insecurity across the state, calling on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take immediate action to protect lives and property.

In a statement signed by its state coordinator, Patrick Owolabi Otu, the group decried the alarming rate of violent attacks, kidnappings, and killings in various communities, describing the situation as a failure of the state government to maintain law and order.

The condemnation follows recent attacks on March 10, where suspected bandits unleashed terror on four communities in Akure North Local Government Area—Aba Alajido, Aba Sunday, Aba Pastor, and Ademeku. According to reports, at least 14 bodies were recovered from the attacks, though the state government has reportedly downplayed the incident.

Similarly, on March 7, a family of four was abducted from their home along the Old Owo-Ipele Road in Owo Local Government Area, further fueling concerns over the worsening security situation in the state.

“The people of Ondo State deserve better,” the statement read. “The government has a duty to protect its citizens, but the rising wave of kidnappings and attacks shows a clear failure in this regard.”

The movement urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to take decisive action, including the deployment of more security personnel to affected areas, engagement with local communities to address the root causes of insecurity, and ensuring that those responsible for these crimes are brought to justice.

The group also called on all Nigerians to speak out against the deteriorating security situation and demand urgent intervention.

“We must not remain silent in the face of this crisis. Together, we can demand a safer and more just society,” the statement concluded.

  • Blue Economy Expert, Owowa Oluwasegun Alex, Champions Ondo State’s Marine-Driven Economic Transformation as Investors Express Readiness to Partner with Government

Blue Economy Expert, Owowa Oluwasegun Alex, Champions Ondo State’s Marine-Driven Economic Transformation as Investors Express Readiness to Partner with Government

Blue Economy expert, business analyst, and market executive, Owowa Oluwasegun Alex, has reiterated the urgent need to harness Ondo State’s vast coastal wealth for sustainable economic growth. With increasing global attention on marine-based economies, Owowa stressed that Ondo State is strategically positioned for an economic transformation that can drive industrialization, job creation, and revenue generation.
In his latest thought leadership piece, “Harnessing the Blue Economy for Ondo State’s Sustainable Growth,” published on LinkedIn, Owowa outlined a comprehensive roadmap for unlocking the potential of the fisheries sector, maritime trade, coastal tourism, and renewable energy. His insights have attracted strong interest from local and international industry players, many of whom are keen to collaborate with the Ondo State Government and explore investment opportunities in the state’s marine economy.
Ondo State boasts a rich coastline, abundant fisheries, and unexplored maritime trade routes, positioning it as a key player in Nigeria’s emerging Blue Economy. However, policy gaps, infrastructure deficits, and minimal government focus have historically hindered growth in the sector.
Owowa commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his proactive leadership and commitment to marine-sector development, citing his world press conference at Araromi Beach during his inauguration, where he openly invited investors to leverage Ondo’s coastal opportunities.
“Beyond the governor’s call for investors at Araromi Beach, I have personally heard him emphasize the importance of the Blue Economy on multiple occasions. This reflects his unwavering dedication to marine-sector development. Seeing the achievements of his administration over the past year, I am confident that Ondo’s marine economy is on the path to becoming a model for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria,” Owowa stated.
To actualize the full potential of the Blue Economy, Owowa proposed a multi-pronged strategic approach. He emphasized the need for a dedicated Blue Economy Advisory Office under the Governor’s leadership, along with a clear policy framework to guide sustainable investments in fisheries, maritime infrastructure, and eco-tourism. He also advocated for Public-Private Partnerships to drive infrastructure development, encouraging foreign direct investment and local collaborations in deep-sea fishing, aquaculture, and logistics hubs. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of modern ports and cold storage facilities to minimize post-harvest losses and boost exports.
In the area of renewable energy, Owowa called for investments in offshore wind and tidal energy to complement Nigeria’s renewable energy transition. He further stressed the need for climate-resilient coastal infrastructure to protect vulnerable communities from environmental challenges. On sustainable fisheries and maritime trade, he proposed the adoption of modern aquaculture techniques and the establishment of marine research hubs. He also underscored the importance of developing efficient maritime logistics to strengthen Ondo State’s position in regional and international trade.
Owowa emphasised that global economies are shifting towards sustainability, and Ondo State must act swiftly to secure its place as a marine economic powerhouse. He called for immediate engagement between government stakeholders, investors, and industry experts to translate policies into actionable projects.
“The time for action is now. With the right policies, strategic investments, and strong government leadership, as demonstrated by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Ondo State can emerge as a leading force in Nigeria’s Blue Economy. The state must capitalize on its maritime assets to drive industrial expansion, employment, and sustainable development.” He concluded.

Ondo Police Debunks Report On Attack, Denies News Of Farmer’s Killings

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked reports claiming that it confirmed the killing of 20 farmers in an attack on four communities in the state.

In a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the command stated that its attention was drawn to misleading reports alleging that 20 farmers were killed in the attack.

According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ala received information about an attack on March 8, 2025, at Sunday Camp, a settlement located along the boundary of Ondo and Edo States. However, the command never confirmed the alleged casualty figure.

“The Command is aware of the attack on Sunday Camp, and the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has directed that the ongoing covert operations across the state be intensified to rid the command of criminal elements,” the statement read.

The police further urged journalists and media outlets to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid spreading misinformation and causing unnecessary panic among residents.

  • Saraki Blasts Akpabio: Don’t Politicise, Trivialise Call for Due Process in Senate

Saraki Blasts Akpabio: Don’t Politicise, Trivialise Call for Due Process in Senate

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has described as “cheap politics and trivialising of a serious issue” the claim by incumbent Senate President, Godswill Akpabio that the call on him to ensure that transparent and open process is instituted to investigate the accusation levelled against him by one of his colleagues, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is an attempt to remove a Niger Delta person from office.
Saraki, in a statement signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, the head of his media office in Abuja, urged Akpabio to read his press statement dated March 1st, 2025 very well to understand that there was nowhere he suggested the resignation of the Senate President.
“Rather, he advised that Akpabio should act in the best interest of the legislative institution by ensuring that no reasonable person is left with any doubt about the fact that the allegations raised by the Senator were investigated and justifiably dispensed with.
“The attention of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Media Office has been drawn to the statement made by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio while addressing the leaders of some “youth ethnic groups” on Friday that certain individuals from Kwara and Adamawa States want him removed because he is from the Niger Delta region.
“Ordinarily, Dr. Saraki would have ignored the statement as a sign of the times in which we now live. However, its underlying motive of politicising and trivialising a serious issue that threatens the integrity, credibility, and importance of the legislature is the reason why we think we should not allow the Senate President to create a misleading impression of the issue at stake in the all-important institution that the National Assembly represents in our democracy.
“Dr. Saraki in his last comment on the Akpabio-Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan crisis never called on the Senate President to resign or step aside. Rather, he urged the Senate President to be conscious of the fact that perception is reality and therefore he should avoid treating the allegations by the Senator in a manner that will create the perception that the Senate as an institution is trying to cover up issues bothering on sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and abuse of office.
“Also, Dr. Saraki made it clear that his intervention was neither about Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan nor whether her claim was right or not. He stated that since the Senator has gone public with such serious allegations against the presiding officer, the image of the institution should be saved through an honest, sincere, open, transparent, and unbiased investigation.
“In that press statement, he also pointed out that there are already existing processes recommended in the Constitution, laws of the land, Senate rules, conventions, and precedents to be followed in carrying out such investigation.
“Again, Dr. Saraki is of the firm belief that his suggestions are for the benefit of the legislative institution. So, he will repeat the same suggestion no matter where the Senate President comes from and whichever party he belongs to. It is not because the incumbent is a member of the APC, that the former Senate President is from the PDP or that the former is from the South-South zone while the latter is from the North Central zone. Far from it. It is disingenuous and crude to describe Dr. Saraki’s comment along those primordial lines.
“This issue is definitely not one in which Akpabio should exploit ethnic sentiments, political division, or regional proclivity. This will neither be in his own interest or that of the institution over which he is presiding. He should face the reality on ground and do what is right.
“The former Senate President believes that when a sensitive matter suggesting sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and mistreatment of women comes up anywhere, it evokes the pains that thousands of women across the nooks and crannies of our society experience daily. Thus, when it is raised in a place like the legislative institution, it is an opportunity for us to handle it with utmost openness and transparency to ensure that justice is not only done but glaringly seen to be done.
“Once again, Dr. Saraki stands by and maintains his earlier suggestion to Akpabio and the Senate leadership on the allegations raised by the Senator from Kogi State. An open, transparent, and honest investigation of the allegations is still needed to ensure that the Senate is not cast in the image of an institution that is tolerant of sexual harassment, gender bias, victimisation and mistreatment of women, abuse of office, and enthronement of the culture of silence. By having such an investigation, the general public and the international community will have more confidence in our legislative institution.
“People like Dr. Saraki have made huge sacrifices in defending the integrity of the legislative institution and will not desist in speaking up for the right thing to be done. May God bless our institutions and our country”.

PDP BoT Calls for Unity, Blasts APC Over Failing Policies in Key Resolutions

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its 79th meeting today, with the Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, addressing critical matters concerning the party and the nation at large.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the BoT expressed serious concern over ongoing internal conflicts within the party, particularly the unresolved dispute within the National Working Committee (NWC). The Board called for unity among all party members and urged them to prioritize the stability and progress of the PDP over personal or sectional interests.
One of the key resolutions was the formation of a committee led by Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki SAN to address the ongoing crisis over the position of the party’s National Secretary, which is currently being contested in the courts. The committee is tasked with engaging all parties involved, studying the situation, and submitting a report to the BoT for further action.
The BoT also welcomed assurances from the Acting National Chairman that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will go ahead as planned in February 2025, with a focus on strengthening the party’s unity and discipline.
On the national front, the BoT expressed grave concerns over the deteriorating economic and security situation in the country, blaming the administration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the worsening conditions. The Board criticized the government for its policies, which they argue have led to increased hardship for Nigerians, including the rise in fuel prices, electricity tariffs, and telecommunications charges. The BoT accused the APC administration of lacking the competence and transparency required to manage the nation’s resources effectively.
The PDP Board of Trustees also called on the APC-led government to reverse what they called “anti-people policies” and take immediate steps to stimulate the economy, create jobs, and alleviate the burdens faced by ordinary Nigerians.
The meeting concluded with expressions of sympathy towards the Governors of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, following the recent deaths of their family members.
Finally, the BoT reassured both PDP members and Nigerians of the party’s unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy, the well-being of the people, and the continued fight for a better Nigeria.
The PDP remains determined, according to the communique, to forge a path that would deliver a brighter future for all Nigerians, especially in the face of current national challenges.
