OPINION: The Tale of the Scorpion and the Good Samaritan: A Lesson for APC by Fade’ Ojamomi
In the annals of cautionary tales and realms of fables, the story of a Scorpion and the Good Samaritan continues to echo from generation to generation. This story explore the complexity of nature and the intrinsic behavior of human beings. It further reveals the character of a vindictive man irrespective of the act of kindness extended towards him either in the past or present. The narrative begins with a good Samaritan who saw a scorpion drowning in a river and crying for help. The scorpion was battling against the relentless tide of the water and it appears the scorpion was destined to drown. The benevolent and magnanimous man had compassion on the scorpion and decided to jump into the water to rescue it.Despite the scorpion’s venomous behavior and reputation, the good Samaritan saved the struggling creature from becoming another martyr of watery demise. The scorpion was so happy and expressed gratitude. He vowed never to sting again after surviving a swiftly flowing River that almost consumed him. Just as they approached the shore, the scorpion who has held tight to the man, stung him and the man became unconscious and find it very difficult to swim out of the River. The venom almost paralyzed the Good Samaritan and he began to struggle for survival whilst inside the water. The man asked, Scorpion but why? The scorpion replied, it’s in my nature to sting people and I find it very difficult not keep to my words and this is essence of my being. This tale is often attributed to Aesop’s fable. It reaffirms that nature cannot easily be altered by foreign circumstance, even by act of salvation. The treatise ain’t about a scorpion or the Samaritan, it’s a metaphorical exemplification on the current political climate in Ondo State. It further underscores the underlying issues around human behavior, urging caution when extending trust and emphasizing the importance of understanding inherent traits of some Political Scorpions. A leopard never changes its spots. This is indeed a lesson to the All Progressive Congress and it’s leadership, they must begin to understand the unchangeable aspects of the characters of people who are only desirous of using the party as a window for ventilation. The Party and it’s leaders must understand that while it is very noble and transformative to be kind to everyone, kindness cannot reshape the intrinsic nature of human beings.Let’s draw some wisdom from this ancient parables, the APC should be wary of road side scorpions as we navigate political life Rivers. Even in the midst of all this sting betrayal, APC should extend empathy and kindness but be mindful of the scorpions they give political powers. -

The Federal government has said the country’s healthcare system is attracting foreign patients, including Indians seeking medical treatments. In an interview on Arise TV on Monday, Minister of State for Health, Dr Tunji Alausa, claimed that the nation’s healthcare was no longer in crisis. He claimed that with improvements in the healthcare system, the country was witnessing a reversal of the ‘japa syndrome,’ suggesting that medical personnel were returning home from abroad. The Minister pointed out that Nigeria had become a preferred destination for medical tourism, particularly for surgical procedures, which were more cost-effective compared to other countries.According to him, the proliferation of aesthetic hospitals, numbering close to 900 across Nigeria, also contributes to attracting patients seeking services such as plastic surgery.“Today, we have almost 900 aesthetic hospitals around Nigeria. People are coming to get plastic surgery,’’ he said.He noted that the administration’s commitment to prioritising public health led to positive changes in the healthcare sector.“We have a President now that believes a healthy nation is the core to harnessing our biggest asset, which is our human capital,” Alausa said.He added that the government allocated dedicated funds and initiated collaborations to enhance primary healthcare services and expand health insurance coverage.“The President has mandated us to increase coverage from about seven million to about 50 million people to have health insurance in the next two to three years. This marks the highest budget allocation for the health sector in almost 24 years”, he said. -

Ife Oyedele Campaign Organisation Disputes Hope Newspaper Report, Claims Principal Misquoted
The attention of the Ife Oyedele Campaign Organisation has been drawn to the recently published report of The Hope Newspaper regarding the APC primary election in Ondo State, implying that aspirants, including Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele, have withdrawn their condemnation of the election’s conduct and outcome. In a statement signed by Hon. Segun Olukoju for Engr. IfeOluwa Oyedele Campaign Organization, it said “We wish to clarify and rectify the misconceptions portrayed in the report.”“Firstly, it is essential to underscore that Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele and his Campaign Organisation, Ife Oyedele Campaign Organisation, maintain their firm stance in condemning the conduct of the APC primary election in Ondo State. Our position remains unchanged, and we categorically reject the outcome of the election.”“While The Hope Newspaper’s report may have suggested otherwise, it is crucial to provide clarity on the statements attributed to Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele. The comments regarding not engaging in activities that would divide the party were taken out of context. We intended to emphasize the importance of party unity and adherence to democratic principles. However, this should not be misconstrued as acceptance of the flawed election process.”“Furthermore, the report failed to provide an accurate representation of the meeting between the aspirants and the National Chairman of the party. While appeals were made during the meeting, no conclusive decisions were reached, and reconciliation efforts are ongoing.”“We condemn any attempt to manipulate the narrative surrounding the primary election. Misleading reports only serve to hinder genuine reconciliation efforts and perpetuate discord within the party. It is imperative for the media to uphold journalistic integrity and present unbiased and factual information to the public.”“In conclusion, we urge the public and other media houses to disregard the contents of The Hope Newspaper’s report regarding Engr. Ifeoluwa Oyedele’s stance on the APC primary election. The statements attributed to our principal were taken out of context, and our condemnation of the election’s conduct and outcome remains steadfast.’ -
