Disruptive Innovation Crucial To The Future Of PR Practice – TOKUNBO MODUPE

The Chairman and Lead Consultant of TPT International, Mr. Adetokunbo Modupe has expounded that disruptive innovation remains the critical life support that will define the future of Public Relations (PR) practice in Nigeria.

Modupe, one of the leading lights in Nigeria’s PR practice, and a key note speaker at the 2019 edition of Brandcommfest in Onikan-Lagos on Thursday, explained that “the future will be service driven as no one will own anything.”

In no distant future, Modupe who spoke on Digital Disruption and the Future of Public Relations Practice, noted material possession will have a little significance in today’s global market as real-time lending equips us with the many benefits of ownership.

“Uber doesn’t own any vehicle, Airbnb doesn’t own any real estate. Facebook, as the world’s most popular social platform, almost creates no content. Ali baba, as the world’s most valuable retailer, has no inventory,” he said.

Quoting Clayton Christensen who described disruptive innovation as a technology or concept whose application significantly affects traditional market or industry functions, Modupe maintained that Disruptive innovation is like a virus which does not happen suddenly, but surely will change the ways things are done

“An example is how the internet as a disruptive innovation has caused the remodelling of the book selling industry. All the big book selling chains market share have been swallowed by Amazon because without having to own brick and mortar stores, it can display its inventory,” he said.

He also pointed out other dimensions of Disruptive innovation to include a process by which a product, service or culture takes root slowly and is sometimes ignored but relentlessly climb up to displace tradition, citing the local example of Cowbell versus Peak Milk.

According to him, the future of Public Relations practice will be anchored on three C’s of Culture, Concept and Content.

While emphasising that the world is now divided into two – The Physical and The Digital, Modupe explained that culture remains the willingness to unlearned traditional ways of doing things, learning to adjust to global culture, which is driven by technology cannot be over emphasized.

He added that Concept can be deliberate, accidental or a fall out of conversation mood. “With the cultural adjustment and alignment, comes the challenge of idea generation. What will differentiate successful practitioners will definitely be how big and compelling your ideas are. If your agency is known for great ideas you will remain relevant,” Modupe noted.
While reminding the gathering that substantial part of PR business is storytelling – creating content, managing content and leveraging content, the TPT Lead strategist emphasised that the world has moved from traditional media to new media and now to every media.
“Until recent times, content consumption was predictably from established media platforms. But not anymore as the number of smart phone users may equal the number of publishers. What will determine who and how your content is received is the content itself,” he told the appreciative audience.

His paper was thereafter dissected by a panel of discussants made up of seasoned practitioners such as Uche Ajene, Managing Consultant, Quadrant MSL; Amaechi Okobi, Group Head, Corporate Communication, Access Bank and Bolaji Okusaga, Managing Director, Precise Communication.
Others include Ayeni Adekunle, Founder, BHM; Adebola Wiliams, CEO, Red Media and O’tega Ogra, Group Head, Corporate Communications, BUA Group.
The Panellists agreed with Modupe that strategic innovation holds the key to the future of PR and marketing communication industry in Nigeria and enjoined practitioners to brace up for the challenges of the ever changing world.

  • Supreme Court Affirms Fayemi Victory; Dismisses Eleka Appeal

Supreme Court Affirms Fayemi Victory; Dismisses Eleka Appeal

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Kolapo Olusola-Eleka challenging the election of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

Affirming Fayemi’s election, the five-man panel of the Supreme Court led by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad unanimously held that the appeal challenging the outcome of the poll lacked merit.

Justice John Okoro, who read the lead judgment, affirmed the judgments of both the Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal and the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, which had both dismissed the petition challenging the outcome of the July 2018 poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Fayemi and the All Progressives Congress polled a total of 197,459 votes to defeated Olusola-Eleka and the PDP who placed second with 178,121 votes in the July 14, 2018 election.

Dissatisfied with the outcome, PDP and Olusola-Eleka had filed their petition before the Ekiti State Election Petition Tribunal which sat and delivered its judgment in Abuja.
The petitioners alleged among others in their petition that the election was marred by a lot of wrongs including non-compliance with the Electoral Act.
But the tribunal on January 28, 2019 dismissed their petition and affirmed the results declared by INEC.

The petitioners further appealed to the Court of Appeal, raising seven issues against the judgment of the tribunal.
But delivering judgment, Justice Stephen Adah who led the three-man panel of the Court of Appeal, resolved all the seven issues raised against the appellants and in favour of the respondents – Fayemi, INEC and APC.
Justice Adah dismissed the case for lacking in merit, a decision the two other members of the panel – Justices Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson and Emmanuel Agim, consented to.

In their further appeal to the Supreme Court, the PDP and Olusola-Eleka, urged the apex court through their lawyer, Yusuf Ali (SAN), to upturn the lower court’s judgment.
The appeal was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Friday.

  • Yoruba Youth Group Give Fulani Herdsmen 7 Days Quit Notice; Launch Operation Folumo

Yoruba Youth Group Give Fulani Herdsmen 7 Days Quit Notice; Launch Operation Folumo

    T

The leadership of the Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW) alongside other leading Yoruba youth organizations in Yoruba Land: a coalition of all yoruba indigenous youth and student organizations in Nigeria and in Diaspora, with the sole aim of enthroning rule of law, security of lives and properties, good governance and succinct democratic ethos predicated on Awoism credos and peaceful coexistence of Nigeria.

Based on this premise, rising from her National Executive Council meeting in ile ife on 23rd May,2019, in view of the recurrent decimal of flagrant brutal killings by the gun wielding terrorist Fulani Herdsmen/Boko Haram, aggressive invasion and violent attacks and alleged kidnapping of innocent Yorubas and Nigerians domiciled in Yoruba Land, gross violation of fundamental rights to human dignity leading to serial and merciless killings of innocent youths, rising wave of insecurity across the nation in Lagos around Ojokoro, ibadan to ife road, ibadan to Ijebu Ode/Benin Ore road, Ekiti to Akure and other highways kidnappings and robberies, incessant records of brutal ritual killings to mention a few, precipitating our unanimous resolution via final 7 days quite notice to all fulani herdsmen/boko haram  to stay off all our territories, towns, villages and highways in all southwest states predicated  on the launched mass movement tagged: “Operation Sweep Clean(Folumo)” forthwith.

Failure to comply with this final warning shall leave us with no other option than to forcefully clean up and rootout all fulani herdsmen/boko haram terrorists in all hiding creeks and forests in the south west geo political zone of Nigeria after 7 days final quit notice to lapse on the night of Thursday 30th May, 2019 accordingly.

Henceforth, we are laconically positing that all residents persons domiciled in the southwest shall be part of this mass movement launch of 20 million man match against the herdsmen terrorists in all southwestern states, wherein a date will be announced upon violation of these warning notice, wherein all our members across all the local governments and communities  within southwestern states shall by jointly and simulteniosly mobilized to frontally comb and move into all forests, creeks and flash points, wherein all cattle breedings and animal husbandry marauding shall be stopped forthwith.

Furthermore, after 21 days of persistence of this heinous threats against our people, we shall not hesitate to move against all investments and businesses; ranging from real estate, transportation haulage, oil and gas owned by any hausa/fulani extractions within southwest, if this evil persist irreversibly without verifiable interventions from their leaders and heads, we shall summarily shut down all palaces of hausa/ fulani communities within southwest.

Nigeria, seems to be faced with multifaceted challenges daily, consequently we have gotten lots of colossal loss of lives and properties from the killer herdsmen terrorist groups, unfortunately they are yet to be classified as a prohibited  Terrorists organization by the federal government of Nigeria.

Paharps, it is highly regrettable to note the Federal Government ill motivated  act of comparing the Myetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria  to Afenifere and other socio-cultural groups; what a profused insultive, irresponsible and reckless statement from a government under democratic rule, to make matters worsened  President Muhamnadu Buhari led federal government assured and promised N100Billion to support the herdsmen, when they have not shown any sign of remorse or repentant demeanor.

We have it on record, that the FG has proven to protect this fulani hersdemen with an additional approval of radio station licencing to fulani radio station network across the nation.

Consequently, this is a direct nexus for provoked aggression,  anarchy and authoritarianism.

We are suspicious of some elements who are using the veil of government to launch massive genocidal war against innocent Nigerians, particularly Yoruba people, i.e recently our doctors and professionals are gruesomely killed and brutally maimed.

Based on live report, we learnt the boko haram and fulani herdsmen are feasting around us daily, in over 2,000 creeks forests spread across southwestrrn states, particularly in the most vulnurable states: Ogun, Ekiti, Oyo, Osun and Ondo States respectively.

For power corrupt and absolute powers corrupt absolutely.

We believe, this is the best time to review our unworkable system of government towards the realization of the restructuring agenda, with a prepared vision and hope for a new people’s constitution that guarantees good governance,  devolves power and economic resources rights to the Regions/ States and Local government units, unfortunately this has not only contributed immensely to our precarious and nebulous status as the poverty capital  of the world, but tainted accolades as the worst place to live in on earth.

What else gives citizens the confidence to thrive, if this stumbling pyramid of daily struggles and resultant double jeopardy remains unabated.

Based on this premise, we believe charity begins at home, precipitating our clarion call for ‘A Southwest Economic Revitalization and Security Summit’ slated for Thursday June 27th, 2019 at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State by 11a.m.

We passionately  appeal to all our political leaders,   stakeholders, elders, youth organizations, all Yoruba socio-cultural self determination groups and Royal fathers to urgently shun all divisive tendencies and embrace one another, for it is high time we crave with the greatest respect and seek His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi 111, The Alaafin of Oyo and other Royal Fathers of great reputes.

Also, we equally call for a closer ranks between  Aare Dr Gani Adams, The Aare Onakankafo of Yoruba Land alongside the Agbekoya, Afenifere, ARG, all OPC, OLM, YCWY, YYC, Yoruba Koya, Yoruba Assembly, YSG, VOR, all youth and student leaders to mention a few, while we equally call on all our esteemed captains of industries, philanthropists, professionals, scholars, political gladiators and leaders of thoughts to collectively reason together on the way forward and proffer immediate panaceas to this stalemate.

For we can no longer guarantee our further safety and economic survival as a nation, due to the aforementioned tribulations and double jeopardy thickly fastly like an evolving time bomb, earnestly waiting for ignition.

We believe that this similar gestures be transmitted to other regions too, in order to simulteniosly and effectively ventilate our age long grudges dispassionately as commons and compatriots.

This will then culminate to the eventual convocation of ‘A National Peace and Security Summit’ to be hosted by President Mohammadu Buhari in Abuja by Thursday 25th July, 2019.

However, firstly we demand for a special Yoruba youth dialogue with President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR being a father and president of the nation, this shall serve as a means of intimating him on all the aforementioned, in order to cross fertilize ideas on the current state of the nation affairs and other issues of mutual interests, as the nation’s present and future heirs, as well as YCYW being the umbrella body for the Yoruba youths.

We hope this clarion call would constructively summoned our dying consciousness of building and salvaging  our nation from imminent total collapse,  for canons of war or attrition cannot solve our dreaded ailments, but exploring dialogue as the alternative first aid of getting out of this evil hoods.

We believe that no human life is worth to be shed on the alter of mediocrity and quests for power.

For we must ensure to protect all inhabitants within our territories and by extension all Nigerians nationally.

    Long live Yoruba Land.

Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!

    Signed:

    Aremo (Barr)Oladotun.Hassan,
    Founder and President,
    Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide(YCYW).
