Former SDP Governorship Candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, Passes On

The political and business communities in Ondo State and beyond have been thrown into mourning following the death of Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (popularly known as OBA), a respected businessman, philanthropist, and politician.

According to an official statement signed by his Personal Assistant and Media Adviser, Mr. Oyeniyi Iwakun, Otunba Akingboye passed away earlier today at his residence in Victoria Garden City (VGC), Lagos.

Until his death, Akingboye was the Chief Executive Officer of Benshore Maritime and Clog Oil Systems, as well as the President of WeAfrica Group. He also held the revered traditional title of Olowomeye I of Ikaleland.

Fondly remembered as a man of integrity and vision, Akingboye was the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Ondo State gubernatorial elections. He was widely admired not only for his contributions to the oil and maritime sectors but also for his commitment to community development and philanthropy.

The statement described him as “a man of unwavering integrity, an accomplished businessman, philanthropist, visionary leader, and community builder who lived a fulfilled and purposeful life.”

Otunba Akingboye is survived by his wives, children, grandchildren, and siblings. Burial arrangements and further details are expected to be announced in due course.
