Residents of Ese-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State have announced plans to embark on a peaceful demonstration to draw government attention to the deplorable state of roads linking their community to neighbouring towns.
In a formal notification addressed to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, the group under the banner of Ese Akoko Transformation Agenda Forum stated that the peaceful protest will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2025, at the open space opposite the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka, Akure.
According to the letter signed by Elder Joseph Arowosegbe (Chairman), Dr. Famuwagun Ayodele (Secretary), and Dr. Niyi Awotomilusi (Member), the people of Ese-Akoko have been enduring decades of neglect over the dilapidated roads connecting the town to Irun, Ogbagi, and Afin-Akoko.
The group expressed appreciation to the Ondo State Commissioner of Police for his continued efforts in maintaining peace and order across the state, describing his achievements as “remarkable and laudable.” However, they stressed that the people of Ese-Akoko have been left with no option but to take to the streets peacefully after several failed attempts to get the government’s attention. “This demonstration becomes our last resort to express our pain to the government. We are only asking that the state comes to our rescue and rehabilitates the roads that have become death traps,” the group stated.
The letter, which was copied to relevant stakeholders including the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Irun Police Division; Hon. Taofik Oladele Mohammed, Chairman of Irun/Ogbagi LCDA; Hon. Felix Afe, member representing Akoko North-West Constituency II at the Ondo State House of Assembly; and Hon. Esan Owolabi, Chairman of Akoko North-West Local Government, urged the authorities to support and ensure a hitch-free protest.
The Ese-Akoko Transformation Agenda Forum emphasized that the planned demonstration would be peaceful, maintaining that their only demand is for the state government to prioritize and commence reconstruction of the long-neglected roads.
Residents say the poor condition of the roads has crippled economic activities, made transportation difficult, and isolated the community from essential services, especially during the rainy season.
