The Ondo State Police Command has reassured members of the Igbo community and other non indigenes residing in the state that investigations into the controversial stop and search incident captured in a viral video will be conducted transparently and without bias.
The assurance was given on Monday by the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, during a solidarity visit by the Non Indigenes Assembly, Ondo State Chapter, at the State Police Headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure.
The delegation, led by the President of the Assembly, Mr Okita Isaac Onahi, and the Secretary, Hon Uche Anthony, commended the Police Commissioner for his swift intervention after the video surfaced online, noting that his directive for an immediate investigation demonstrated transparency, accountability and commitment to justice.
Speaking during the visit, the leaders of the Assembly praised the Command for promptly identifying the officers involved and initiating disciplinary procedures in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s regulations. They expressed confidence that the investigation would be impartial and said the response had strengthened the confidence of the Igbo community and other non indigenes in the fairness of the Ondo State Police Command.
Responding, CP Ohagwu appreciated the delegation for the visit and their continued support for the Command’s efforts to maintain peace and security across the state. He assured them that the ongoing investigation would be concluded without fear or favour, stressing that any officer found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the law and the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to professionalism, fairness and the protection of the rights of every resident, irrespective of ethnic, religious or cultural background. He urged members of the public to remain law abiding, refrain from inflammatory comments capable of creating division and continue to support the Police with credible information that would enhance public safety.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its resolve to sustain community oriented policing and maintain harmonious relationships among all residents, while assuring the public of its commitment to accountability, justice and the highest standards of professional policing.
