NBA Backs Supreme Court’s E-Filing Initiative, Hails Judiciary’s Digital Transformation

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has commended the Supreme Court for unveiling its Electronic Filing (E-Filing) System and the Nigeria Case Management System, describing the initiative as a landmark step towards modernising the administration of justice in the country.

Osigwe made the remarks during the unveiling of the digital platforms at the Supreme Court, where he joined the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, Justices of the Supreme Court, the Chief Registrar and other stakeholders.

He said the introduction of the electronic filing and case management systems demonstrated the judiciary’s commitment to innovation, efficiency and improved access to justice.

According to the NBA president, institutions that fail to adapt to changing realities risk becoming obsolete, stressing that the judiciary must continue to embrace technology to remain relevant and responsive to the needs of the public.

He noted that technology had become an indispensable component of modern legal practice, adding that lawyers must embrace digital tools to enhance service delivery and improve the justice system.

Osigwe disclosed that the NBA had already embarked on its own digital transformation agenda through the relaunch of the NBA Digital Stamp and Seal and the introduction of the NBA Digital Signature Studio to make legal practice more secure, efficient and seamless.

He pledged the association’s full support for the successful implementation of the Supreme Court’s E-Filing System, revealing that the NBA would organise nationwide awareness and capacity-building programmes to equip legal practitioners with the skills required to utilise the new digital platform effectively.

The senior advocate congratulated the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, the Justices of the Supreme Court, the Chief Registrar and the entire judiciary for what he described as a bold and visionary milestone.

He expressed confidence that the Electronic Filing System and the Nigeria Case Management System would improve case management, reduce delays in the dispensation of justice, expand access to justice and align Nigeria’s judicial system with global best practices.
