Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative to Austria and the International Organisations in Vienna, Florence Ajimobi, has arrived in Vienna to officially assume duty.
Ajimobi was received at the VIP Wing of the Vienna International Airport by the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Nigeria, Mr. Muyiwa Onifade, alongside Home-Based Officers, members of the local staff and leaders of the Nigerian community in Austria.
Among those who welcomed the envoy were representatives of the Oduduwa Group, the Igbo Cultural Group, the Nigeria-Austria Friendship Group, the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), as well as Nigerian students resident in Austria.
Speaking after her arrival, Ajimobi expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded her by officials of the mission and members of the Nigerian community, describing it as a demonstration of unity and patriotism among Nigerians living abroad.
She said she was honoured to assume her new diplomatic responsibilities and pledged to work towards deepening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Austria while advancing Nigeria’s interests at the various international organisations headquartered in Vienna.
The ambassador also reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation between both countries in key areas of mutual interest, including diplomacy, trade, investment, education and cultural exchange.
She further expressed optimism about working closely with officials of the Nigerian Mission, the diaspora community and relevant stakeholders to promote Nigeria’s image and foster stronger engagement with Austrian authorities and international institutions.
“I am deeply grateful for this heartfelt welcome and look forward to strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Nigeria and Austria,” she said.
Austria hosts several major international organisations, including the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), making the Nigerian Permanent Mission in Vienna one of the country’s key diplomatic postings in Europe.
Ajimobi’s assumption of office is expected to further strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagement with Austria and enhance the country’s participation in multilateral affairs through the international organisations based in Vienna.
