The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Judiciary to strengthen criminal justice administration, improve the quality of investigations, and ensure the timely dispensation of justice across the country.
Disu made the call on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, at the Supreme Court in Abuja.
The visit, according to the Nigeria Police Force, formed part of ongoing efforts to reinforce institutional cooperation between the Police and the Judiciary in advancing the rule of law and enhancing the effectiveness of Nigeria’s criminal justice system.
During the meeting, the Inspector-General commended the leadership of the Judiciary for its commitment to judicial integrity, constitutional governance and the administration of justice.
He described the Police and the Judiciary as indispensable partners in the criminal justice system, stressing that sustained collaboration between both institutions remains critical to improving investigation standards, strengthening prosecutorial support and ensuring justice is delivered without unnecessary delays.
The police boss also underscored the importance of the effective implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) and corresponding state laws, noting that faithful compliance with the legal framework would significantly enhance efficiency in criminal proceedings and reduce delays in the dispensation of justice.
Disu further highlighted the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, including investments in forensic science, intelligence-led policing, digital investigation capabilities and other modern policing initiatives aimed at improving crime detection and prosecution.
He expressed optimism that closer collaboration with the Judiciary, particularly in the areas of technology deployment, capacity building and institutional cooperation, would further strengthen criminal justice delivery and enhance public confidence in the justice system.
According to him, the integration of modern investigative tools and improved synergy between investigators and judicial officers will contribute to more efficient prosecution of criminal cases and reinforce the rule of law.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with the Judiciary and other critical stakeholders in promoting justice, protecting citizens’ rights and building a safer and more secure society.
The visit is one of the early high-level engagements by the Inspector-General as part of efforts to deepen inter-agency cooperation and advance ongoing reforms within the nation’s criminal justice architecture.
