NANS To Hold Inauguration Novelty Football Match In Abuja

The National Association of Nigerian Students has announced plans to stage an inauguration novelty football match as part of activities marking the commencement of the current national administration’s tenure.

The novelty fixture, organised by the Office of the National Director of Sports, is scheduled to hold on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

According to an official statement signed by the National Director of Sports, Ojumoola Miracle Timileyin, the match will feature the NANS National Executives against NANS National Stakeholders in what has been described as a symbolic contest aimed at promoting unity, collaboration and sportsmanship among student leaders.

The association said the event represents a significant milestone for the current NANS leadership, describing it as the formal sporting inauguration of an administration committed to service, excellence and advancing the interests of Nigerian students.

The statement noted that the football match is designed to strengthen the bond between the national executive and critical stakeholders while demonstrating the importance of teamwork and healthy engagement in student leadership.

According to the organisers, the novelty match goes beyond football and serves as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to active leadership and meaningful engagement with students across the country.

“The NANS Inauguration Novelty Match is more than a football game; it is a statement. A statement that this administration leads not only with words, but with energy, passion and a genuine connection to the values that define Nigerian students,” the statement read.

It added that bringing the National Executives and National Stakeholders onto the same football pitch symbolises collaboration, camaraderie and a shared commitment to the growth of the students’ movement.

“As both teams compete in the spirit of friendly rivalry, the message to Nigerian students across the country is clear — this is a leadership that is active, engaged and fully committed to the student space,” the statement added.

The association expressed optimism that the event would attract student leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members of the media from across the country, providing an avenue to celebrate unity within the Nigerian students’ community.

NANS also extended an invitation to student leaders, development partners, media organisations and well-wishers to attend the event and support what it described as a historic fixture in the life of the association.

The statement concluded with a message of solidarity, saying, “Together, we move. Together, we serve. Together, we deliver.”
