Tinubu Appoints Osun-Born Enitan as Head of Civil Service

…Enitan succeeds Walson-Jack, assumes office August 27

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Enitan, who is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, will assume office on August 27, 2026, succeeding Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.

He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, during which he worked at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.

The Presidency said Enitan would bring considerable institutional experience and a deep understanding of the workings of the Federal Civil Service to his new position.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her years of dedicated service to the nation and the reforms, innovations and impact recorded in the Civil Service during her tenure.

The President wished her a fulfilling life after retirement and commended her contribution to national development.

Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service to consolidate ongoing reforms and innovations in the Civil Service while deepening professionalism, efficiency and responsiveness across the service.

He further tasked Enitan with building a Civil Service that is professional, merit-driven, accountable and innovative, with the capacity to effectively deliver on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan had his secondary education at Ajibode Grammar School, Ibadan, and the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.

He proceeded to the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.

In 2015, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.

Enitan’s appointment takes effect from August 27, 2026.
