Troops battle B’Haram in Borno, recapture Fatori

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai
    Nigeria’s military on Wednesday said
regional troops had recaptured a town on the shores of Lake Chad from
Boko Haram, but the Islamists claimed to have inflicted heavy
    casualties, the AFP has reported.
    The Acting Director, Army Public
Relations, Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed the clash, said that several
of the insurgents were killed in the ongoing operation.
According to him, the troops were able
to overpower the insurgents at Mallam Fatori during the operation, which
also involved the fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force.

Usman said that the terrorists left the area and had gathered around the nation’s border with Niger.
He said, “As part of Operation  Gama
Aiki, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Multinational Joint Task Force
captured Mallam Fatori in the northern part of Borno State, after a
fierce battle closely covered by air operations.
“However, the  terrorists reinforced around the border with Niger Republic.
“This was while the troops were
consolidating on this success. The troops killed several of the Boko
Haram terrorists in the  resulting encounter and subsequently had to
withdraw to a vantage position.  The operation continues.”
Usman said its troops and counterparts
from the Multinational Joint Task Force had “captured Mallam Fatori…
after a fierce battle” backed by air support.
    But “the terrorists reinforced around
(the) border with Niger… while the troops were consolidating on this
success,” he added in an emailed statement.
Mallam Fatori, in Borno State, was
liberated in March last year as part of a regional counter-offensive
against the Islamists, who had captured swathes of territory in
    north-eastern Nigeria in 2014.
But fighters from Boko Haram, which is
affiliated to the Islamic State group and now calls itself Islamic State
West Africa Province, reoccupied the town after troops left.
The MNJTF is made up of soldiers from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin.
Northern Borno State, which is near the border with Niger, is inaccessible because of insecurity with Boko Haram.
There have been an increasing number of
attacks in south-eastern Niger in recent weeks, an indication that
rebels have re-grouped and switched focus.
Boko Haram claimed its fighters, which it dubbed “the cavalry of the caliphate”, attacked the regional force.

Man stabs his father during church service

Police say a 21 year old man, Ethan A. Buckley allegedly stabbed his
father during a church service on Sunday in Kentucky.
Bowling Green police say that the son was fortunately subdued by
congregation members and security workers and taken into custody
following the stabbing on Sunday at Hillvue Heights Baptist Church
before any more damage could be done.

The victim was taken to a hospital where his condition wasn’t immediately known.

Witness Ashlyn Rice was standing at the back of the crowded church when
she heard a commotion toward the front. She says it happened near the
end of the 9:30 a.m. service. She saw people run for the door and
    followed them.

The reason for the stabbing is unknown.

Buckley has been charged with assault and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.

  • Nigeria experiencing the worst form of Nepotism in the history of government– Fayose

Nigeria experiencing the worst form of Nepotism in the history of government– Fayose

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose has said that Nigerians were suffering
under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government of President
Mohammadu Buhari because “the country is in the hands of wrong managers
who do not know what to do and out of nepotism, not ready to be assisted
by those who know.” In a statement released today by his Special
Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose
said Nigeria was experiencing the worst form of nepotism in the history
    of government in the country.

“Nepotism is the reason our President discarded competent people in his
party that should be running the government with him and opted for his
relatives, friends, in-laws and very close associates. The only
qualification to hold key positions in the Presidency is to know a
certain nephew of the President or be a member of his family, that’s
nepotism and what nepotism breeds is incompetence. The most influential
person in the Presidency today is said to be one Mamman Daura, who is a
nephew of the President. Personal Assistant to President Buhari is said
to be the son of Mamman Daura while the State Chief of Protocol said to
be married to Mamman Daura’s daughter. It is also the height of nepotism
that apart from just two, all security chiefs and heads of all the
paramilitary agencies in Nigeria, as well as all the political-heads
overseeing all the military and paramilitary arms and agencies are from
the North of Nigeria,” Fayose said.

He added that President Buhari was obviously being tormented by fear of
the unknown which he described as the main reason people take to
    nepotism.xxxx

“As a leader, you don’t need to fear anything. But the moment a leader
peeps into the future, realising that his lack of capacity could have
consequential effects on him, such a leader will definitely resort to
nepotism to protect himself. Also, the moment a government is unable to
guarantee the existence of the people, it must resort to nepotism to
protect itself and that is exactly what is being witnessed in Nigeria,
especially with the lopsided appointments of security chiefs and key
functionaries of the Federal Government,” he said.

    While lamenting the poor state of the economy, Fayose said;

“Most of those people that aided the emergence of President Buhari must
be having a rethink now, but it is too late! Interestingly, political
affiliation has nothing to do with hunger, poverty and lack. Exchange
rate was less than N200 to $1 when President Buhari took over power, as
at today, it has gone beyond N400 to $1 and Naira is still undergoing a
free fall. One bag of rice was less than N8, 000 as at May 2016, it is
now N20, 000. Kerosene is now beyond the reach of the masses. Nigerians
voted for change because the APC promised them solutions to the
country’s problems, but all we hear every day from the APC Federal
Government are complaints upon complaints as if Nigerians elected a
government of complaints. Obviously, the APC government has failed
Nigerians and the President has resorted to putting his immediate family
members and close associates in key government positions to protect
himself from the fear of the unknown that has enveloped him.”

Siasia says an African country can win the world cup given adequate preparations

Speaking shortly after his side beat Denmark 2-0 to advance to the
semifinals of the Olympics, Samson Siasia said that poor preparation
hampers the performance of African sides on the world stage. He said
that if the right preparations are made, an African country can go as
    far winning the world cup.
    He said:

“I think that’s an issue we have, not just in Nigeria. I think it’s the
case with most Africa countries. If African counties were better
prepared, they might have a shot at the World Cup.
“But the problems are that it’s always the same thing. It’s not good
trying to compete with having problems.
“Hopefully, we might find a way to change the way we prepare. Africa
won’t win the World Cup, having these problems.”

Usain Bolt remains the fastest man in the world three times in a row!

They say lightning never strikes twice, but Usain Bolt has claimed the
title of fastest man in the world three times in a row beating American
Justin Gatlin to win his third successive gold medal in the 100m final
race on Sunday night, running the track in 9.81 seconds at the Rio 2016
Olympics. More photos after the cut…

After the race on Sunday, Usain Bolt said:

‘Somebody said I can become immortal’. ‘Two more medals to go and I can
sign off. Immortal.’ He added  ‘I came to these Olympics to win three
golds and prove I am one of the greats,’ he said,  ‘If I fail I will
feel sad and I will not feel accomplished.’

Bolt, who hopes to break the world record in the 200m on Thursday – his
favorite event – added that he would be disappointed if he did not
    complete the ‘triple triple’.

  • Catholic Priest disrobed after he was discovered to have married two wives

Catholic Priest disrobed after he was discovered to have married two wives

    54
year old Very Reverend Father Peter Zuni of the Queen of Apostles
Catholic Church, Kakuri parish, Kaduna State, was recently disrobed and
sacked by the Archbishop of the Kaduna Archdiocese, Bishop Ndagoso
Manoso (pictured above) after his secret wife stormed the church to
disclose her secret relationship with the Catholic priest.

    The
news came as a shock to the church because according to the doctrine of
the Catholic Church, only unmarried men are ordained into the
priesthood as they are obligated to swear to an oath of celibacy and
observe perfect and perpetual service for the sake of the kingdom of
heaven. This, it is believed, would enable the priests to easily remain
close to Christ with an undivided heart, and dedicate themselves more
freely to the service of God and the congregation.

    According
to The Sun, one of the wives is already late while the surviving one
who blew the whistle about three weeks ago over the secret marriage is
said to be nursing a child for the embattled priest.

Speaking on the development, the Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Bishop Ndagoso Manoso said
Father Zuni’s second wife had approached him in his office with a baby
and claimed Zuni was the father of her child. After due investigation by
his office, it was confirmed that the priest was her secret husband.

    “It
is very unfortunate that this thing had to happen in my diocese. It is
not an easy thing for me; if I tell you what I have been going through
in the past few weeks over this issue; it has not been easy for me.
Father Zuni was my classmate; we spent seven years in the seminary. At a
time he proceeded to Kaduna Polytechnic and read Accounting.

    But
this thing happened and nobody knew. But he has to face the sanction.
We sacked and disrobed him because what he did is no longer compatible
with his vocation as a priest. It was not true that he was transferred
to any village.  He was about to be transferred on normal routine, but
when I heard of this story, I had to cancel the transfer and sacked
    him.
    It
is true that he had affairs with two women and they both had children
for him, but one of the women is late already. We are not God, we did
not know on time until now that he was having affairs with two women.
    The
church said the priest has to go because the church doesn’t allow
priests to marry. So he had to go and look after his children and his
    matrimonial home.
    You
can now imagine what the priest is going through, either spiritually or
psychologically. He must be going through hell on earth. This is my
concern for him now. The woman and the kids will be going through trauma
    also.
    I
have been trying to see how I can help him, but I don’t think I have
the skills to help him. But he needs help to come to terms with
    reality.
    By
December he will be 30 years in the priesthood, and he is now 54 years
old, so at this age what can he do with his life. Nobody can employ him
now. He spent seven years in the seminary and 30 years in the
priesthood, and that is 37 years, so what can he do with his life at 54?
The church too is going through a lot of trauma, so we need everybody’s
prayers for us to put this incident behind us.”he said in tears

Meanwhile the man in the eye of the storm, Father Zuni, has neither
denied nor confirmed the allegation. In a telephone interview he said

“I find it difficult myself to believe what people are saying about me. I
will not comment on it now. I will follow due process to invite you for
an interview, but I am afraid, the newspaper of the archdiocese, The
Cross News, may carry this story before you (Sunday Sun)”.
  • Rio Olympics: Go for the gold! President Buhari hails victorious Nigerian soccer team

Rio Olympics: Go for the gold! President Buhari hails victorious Nigerian soccer team

    President Buhari on Saturday
praised the indomitable spirit of the Nigerian soccer team to the 2016
Olympics Game. Nigeria beats Denmark 2.0 to secure a place in the
    semi-finals
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesin, said a cheering President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday night praised the
indomitable spirit of the Nigerian soccer team to the Olympics Games,
which saw them flying over Denmark 2-0 to qualify for the semi-finals.
    “Again and again, the unconquerable
Nigerian spirit has come to the fore, showing that where there is a
will, there’s always a way. This was a team that was not given much
chance, but which has now advanced into
the semi-finals. Go for it. Go for the gold, and let the Nigerian banner
be held proudly aloft once again on the global stage. We are almost
    there. Let’s go.”
President Buhari urged the Nigerian nation to pray
and support the Nigerian contingent to the Olympics, especially the
soccer team, so that the rest of the world will know that even in the
face of economic adversity, the Nigerian spirit remains resolute and
    lifted high.

“And this, we shall demonstrate in every sphere of our national life,” the President added.
  • Five reasons you should sleep naked

Five reasons you should sleep naked

    It encourages greater intimacy

Apart from making sleeping next to a loved one exciting, our naked
body releases oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone.”

A 2009 study published by the Swedish University of Agricultural
Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden, says “Oxytocin reduces blood pressure,
cortisol levels and helps to reduce stress.
This hormone does not only help relationship, but also your health!

    It can keep you cool

One way to be cool during sleep is to abandon cloths.

    It may help relieve insomnia

According to Dr. Cameron Van den Heuvel of University of South
Australia’s Centre for Sleep Research, regulating sleep temperature may
bring some relief to sufferers of insomnia.
“Studies of sleep onset insomniacs show that they consistently have a
warmer core body temperature immediately before initiating sleep, when
compared with normal healthy adults. This results in a state of
heightened arousal that prevents them from falling asleep when they go
to bed, probably because they have to wait for their bodies to lose the
heat that’s keeping them awake. We’re only talking about a half to one
degree but that small temperature change can result in significant
differences in arousal between insomniacs and people without sleeping
    problems.”

The implication is that sleeping naked relieves insomia.

    It can help relieve stress

Sleeping naked can relieve stress because it lowers cortisol levels.
Cortisol is a hormone commonly referred to as the “stress hormone,” and
when levels are chronically spiked, health problems can arise, such as a
propensity towards high blood pressure, weight gain, and a compromised
    immune system.

It can make you look and feel young

During sleep a variety of growth hormones, as well as anti-aging
hormones such as melatonin, are released. These hormones serve to keep
us looking and feeling young. To encourage the optimal release of these
growth hormones, we need to get those seven to eight hours of sleep.

  • #SaveMayowa wasn’t a scam after all…my apologies to the family – Linda

    #SaveMayowa wasn’t a scam after all…my apologies to the family – Linda

People who know me well will tell you that the easiest and fastest way
to get money out of me is to tell me you’re sick. I hate seeing people
that helpless. Over the years, I’ve donated and also used my platform to
raise money for several sick people, including Mayowa Ahmed. Early
morning on July 28th, I received a call saying the #SaveMayowa campaign
was a scam. That the lady was terminally ill and the family had no
intentions of using the money raised for her health to treat her as they
had no invite from the hospital in Atlanta, neither did she even have a
visa to the US. Please continue…

They wanted me to blog it quickly so people could stop donating. I found
it hard to believe at first but it was coming from people who were
directly involved in raising money for the sick girl. I sent someone to
LUTH to investigate, he got there and found chaos. The Police was
already involved, people were being questioned, some folks were
shouting, he spoke to people in the hospital and many seemed confused. I
spoke with those who had called me, and they said 1000%, the whole
    thing was a scam.

And I sincerely believe that at the time they told me this, they
genuinely believed it to be a fact. I don’t think it was done
maliciously. After they sent me documents showing the hospital in
Atlanta was not really involved in Mayowa’s treatment and LUTH medical
directors denied knowledge of a fund raising for the sick girl, I
believed it to also be a fact! And I wrote it. My mistake, I think, was
owning the story, I probably should have quoted them. And maybe
investigated more. My apologies to the family! The post has since been
    taken down.

After investing properly, the police found it wasn’t a scam, that it was
more a miscommunication between the parties helping to raise funds and
the girl’s family. I spoke about the issue with the Lagos police PPRO
and she assured me that the family didn’t have bad intentions.

What I am happy about is that; even if the family had had dubious
intentions initially, now they can’t do any of that, as everyone is now
watching. So maybe a good thing came out of the whole chaos.

The happy news is that Mayowa has been flown to South Africa for treatment. She left Nigeria on Thursday August 11th.

May God use her case to show that He is God!
Let’s continue to pray for her!

  • Barcelona use Munir & Samper to tempt Valencia into Alcacer sale

Barcelona use Munir & Samper to tempt Valencia into Alcacer sale

The La Masia graduates could be heading for Mestalla as part of a deal
for the accomplished forward, whose current pricetag is far above what
    Barca are willing to pay

Barcelona are determined to bring Valencia hitman Paco Alcacer to
Camp Nou, and could release both Munir El Haddadi and Sergi Samper to
convince Los Che to bring down their valuation of the Spain
    international.

After a long, fruitless summer searching for a suitable rotation
option behind Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar the Liga champions
finally appear to have found their man.

Negotiations with Valencia have progressed well, and Alcacer has
responded positively to the challenge of playing as the first man off
the bench backing up the world’s most potent forward line.

The biggest obstacle to a deal, however, is a considerable difference
in what Barcelona are willing to pay for their target and the fee Los
Che consider acceptable to release the striker to one of their domestic
    rivals.
The Catalans are reluctant to bid over €30 million for Alcacer, while
Valencia would like to receive up to €50m, a figure that is still some
way south of his €80m release clause.

While the gap would appear insurmountable, Barca hold two valuable
cards: young strike pair Munir and Samper, who could both enter
    negotiations.

Munir affirmed recently that he would be happy to accept a move away
should the club bring in a new striker, while Samper is aware the
chances of him staying in the Barca first team are minimal.
And after efforts to place Alen Halilovic at the Mestalla broke down
due to salary differences, the La Masia pair could be making their way
to Valencia either on loan moves or permanent transfers with a buyback
    option, thereby lowering Alcacer’s pricetag.
