  • US issues a travel warning to their citizens in Nigeria, list 20 states to be avoided

US issues a travel warning to their citizens in Nigeria, list 20 states to be avoided

The U.S. Department of State has released a statement warning their
Citizens in/coming to Nigeria, to consider their own personal security
by avoiding some states due to the security situation in northeast
Nigeria. The statement warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travelling to
Nigeria and recommends that U.S. citizens should especially avoid
travelling to Adamawa, Borno & Yobe. Except for essential matters.

Other states that are to be avoided due to the risk of kidnappings,
robberies, and other armed attacks are:  Bauchi, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo,
Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Niger, Plateau,
    Rivers, Sokoto, and Zamfara.

States in the Northeast are to be avoided because the security situation
in northeast remains ‘fluid and unpredictable’. The statement explained
that the ability of the Mission in Nigeria to provide assistance to
U.S. citizens in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states remains severely
limited. All U.S. citizens are to be particularly vigilant around
government security facilities; churches, mosques, and other places of
worship; locations where large crowds may gather, such as hotels, clubs,
bars, restaurants, markets, shopping malls; and other areas frequented
    by expatriates and foreign travellers.

“Security measures in Nigeria remain heightened due to threats posed by
extremist groups, and U.S. citizens may encounter police and military
checkpoints, additional security, and possible road blocks throughout
the country. All U.S. citizens should remain aware of current situations
including curfews, travel restrictions, and states of emergency in the
areas they are in or plan to visit.

“Kidnappings remain a security concern throughout the country. Criminal
elements throughout Nigeria orchestrate kidnappings for ransom; Islamic
extremists, operating predominantly in the North, also have been known
to conduct kidnappings. Criminals or militants have abducted foreign
nationals, including U.S. citizens, from off-shore and land-based oil
facilities, residential compounds, airports, and public roadways.

“Militant groups have destroyed oil production infrastructure in Bayelsa
and Delta states.  U.S. citizens are advised to avoid the areas of
these states where these incidents have occurred. Attacks by pirates off
the coast of Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea have increased substantially
in recent years.  Armed gangs have boarded both commercial and private
vessels to rob travelers. The Nigerian Navy has limited capacity to
respond to criminal acts at sea.”

  • Niger Delta Avengers announces their new twitter handle, say they are not afraid of military attacks on Illegal bunkering camps

Niger Delta Avengers announces their new twitter handle, say they are not afraid of military attacks on Illegal bunkering camps

Militant groups, Niger Delta Avengers have announced a new twitter
handle. In a statement released on their website today, the group said
they are not afraid of the Nigerian Airforce’s recent attacks on illegal
bunkering camps in some parts of the Niger Delta region. The group say
their major demand is that Nigeria should be restructured. Read the full
    text of their statement below.

The Nigeria Military is playing some war game on some illegal bunkering
camps and showing video of how they carry out the bombardment. That is
so unprofessional don’t think they can intimidate the NDA with those
scarp jet bombers. They can deploy fourth generation jet-bombers that
will not stop us from fighting for our people.

    We
challenge the military to share with the public the militants killed in
the so-called sir strike. We are very sure they won’t share the images
of militants killed because non was killed except innocent women and
    children.

What we are saying is the country should be restructured. The call for
restructuring of Nigeria has gone beyond the NDA. The only group of
persons against the restructuring is the Villa. The federal government
should just listen tot the voice of the citizens instead of playing the
    deaf ear game.

We officially saying that @agbiniboND is our new official twitter
account handle. Twitter can block or suspend our account but they can’t
    stop or block our struggle.

Graphic photos: At least 30 killed in Adamawa herdsmen attack

At least 30 people have been reportedly killed by suspected Fulani
herdsmen in Kodomun Community in Demsa Local Government of Adamawa
State. The attackers razed down majority of the settlement and killed
mostly children and elderly who were unable to run for safety.

The initial casualty figure was 20 but youths from Kodomun who brought
out the corpses of the slain members of the community from the bush said
the recovery of the additional bodies had raised the death toll from
    the attacks to 30.

    The
head of the hunters and vigilante group in charge of the council area,
Mr. Hyniel Giwa, said the attack started on Sunday and lasted till
Monday morning, adding that it took the intervention of the security
forces and vigilante groups to halt the marauding herdsmen from burning
the entire Kodomum village to the ground.

“When they heard the sirens of the brigade commander and commissioner of
police coming into the village, that was when they abandon their
operations and ran away,” he said.

Giwa said most of the villagers affected by the attack had since fled
the area, adding that some were seen fleeing to Numan town and to Yola,
the state capital. He said some of the injured victims were taken to the
specialist hospital in Yola by their relatives who were able to flee
with them. Dead victims of the attack were buried by locals in the area
    Wednesday.

However, the Police spokesman of the state command, a superintendent,
Abubakar Othman, said 11 people died in the attack with several others
    injured.

Meanwhile, Hon. Barr Kwamoti Laori visited the community yesterday,
August 3rd to sympathize with the victims and donated relief materials.

  • 31-year old man nabbed with hard drug worth N1.78b in Anambra State

31-year old man nabbed with hard drug worth N1.78b in Anambra State

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State
arrested a 31-year-old man on July 28, for allegedly peddling hard drug
    worth N1.78 billion.

The Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, said the suspect identified as
Vincent Chidiebere was arrested in Awka, the state capital, with
methamphetamine weighing 25.2kg. A kilogramme of the drug cost about
    $150,000.

He said the arrest was made following a tip-off that a shipment of the
drug would pass through Anambra from Enugu to Lagos. Speaking to
    reporters, he said:

“Based on the information, we set up a team to search vehicles from a
particular company. About 11am we intercepted a vehicle carrying the
    substance and nabbed the suspect.”

Momodu, described the drug as “one of the most potent illicit drugs in
the world, which has a lot of destructive tendencies on the user, adding
that anyone under the influence of the dangerous drug can be influenced
to make disastrous decisions. He said the chemicals used for the
production were highly toxic and could cause permanent destruction to
    the eco-system.

“The waste from the drug is more toxic than the extracted substance. The
people around where it is being produced are likely to be exposed to
cancer and other incurable diseases, while children born in the area are
    likely to be deformed.”

The Commander said that apart from the three methamphetamine
laboratories discovered at Nanka, Ozubulu and Obosi, he believed more
exist. Momodu urged the public to volunteer information that could help
to stop the illicit venture, adding that the State Governor, Willie
Obiano pledged a reward of N500,000 to anyone with useful information.

“Most of the methamphetamine being produced are meant for Asian countries,” Momodu said.

The suspect will be arraigned before court on completion of investigation.

  • Abdulmumin Jibrin responds to allegations that he’s being sponsored to destabilize the House of Reps

Abdulmumin Jibrin responds to allegations that he’s being sponsored to destabilize the House of Reps

Sacked chairman of the House of Representatives committee on
Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin released a statement addressing the
    allegation today. It read,

I am obliged to respond to some allegations that I am
sponsored by some external forces to destabilize the House of
Representatives The worthless and laughable allegation is orchestrated
by Speaker Dogara and his gang of thieves to discredit my unstoppable
mission No external forces in this matter, if there are any, they
deserve commendation for sponsoring a struggle to wipe out corruption in
    the House.

    In any
case, are the external forces responsible for the massive theft and
abuse of office by Speaker Dogara and the 12 other members? I am sure he
will very soon resort to religious blackmail forgetting that I was the
one, a muslim from north west that spearhead and mobilize resources for
his election. i had a very good meeting with my party the APC yesterday.
I thank the party for their intervention and objectivity and I will
continue to cooperate with the party. But I stand by my allegations
against Speaker Dogara and his corrupt gang of 12. We shall continue
this struggle. There is no going back!!!
