No difference among Atiku, Tinubu, Obi – SAN

    A
Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has described as
futile the candidacy of the Labour Party’s flagbearer, and his running
mate in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed,
    respectively.

Adegboruwa, in a statement on Tuesday, titled, “The
Futility of Obi/Baba-Ahmed Ticket,” said the duo lacked a legitimate
party or structure but leveraged on their financial prowess to buy the
platform meant for genuine working-class representatives.

    Adegboruwa
also said that there was no major difference among the presidential
candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives
Congress, and the Labour Party; Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and
    Obi respectively.

The PUNCH reports that Obi, who was a
presidential aspirant under the PDP, had decamped from the PDP to the
Labour Party, where he finally secured the ticket to contest Presidency
    in the 2023 elections.

Its been tough. I am eager to leave- President Buhari

President Buhari says he is eager to hand over to his successor because “it’s been tough”.

The president said this while receiving some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), legislators and political leaders at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, on Monday, July 11.

“By this time next year, I would have made the most out of the two terms, and the remaining months I will do my best. I wish the person who is coming after me the very best,” he said.

On security, the President said the North West had posed more challenges.

“I am eager to go. I can tell you it has been tough. I am grateful to God that people appreciate the personal sacrifices we have been making,” he said

  • My kidnappers threatened large-scale attacks on Yorubaland – Victim

My kidnappers threatened large-scale attacks on Yorubaland – Victim

A kidnap victim, Idowu Ajayi, in this interview with ABIODUN NEJO shares his experience in gunmen’s den and the ordeals of relatives, who secured his release

    How were you kidnapped?

It happened along the Ikole-Ijesa Isu road at 4:30pm on March 14. I went to Ijesha Isu from Ikole to assist my mum to carry yams which were already by the roadside. I picked them and was on my way back when it happened. I got to a bad portion of the road, where I had to compulsorily slow down.

As I applied the brake, I heard a gunshot-like sound and was confused about whether it was a gunshot or a tyre burst.

Before I knew what happened, two armed men had emerged from the bush. I saw two others ahead and they started firing gunshots. We were two in my car because I offered a 14-year-old girl a free ride from Ijesa Isu to Ikole.

As I saw them, not knowing two others were at the back also, I put the car on reverse gear, but with the punctured tyre and those at the back, I had to park. The gunmen were six in number, two of them were positioned before the bad portion, two were in the bush at the bad portion and the remaining two were after the bad portion. It was those at the pothole side that shot at the car tyre.

They ordered me out of the car and started beating me. They smashed the car glasses and shot sporadically in the air to prevent other vehicles from coming. They searched the car and removed the N21,000 there and as well took the N14,000 in my pocket.

Later, they led me into the bush. We did not go farther than a pole away from the road. They collected my shoes, wristwatch and belt and ordered me and the girl to lie down. From there, I could hear when people came to the vehicle and when the police arrived at the scene, but I could not say anything.

Didn’t the policemen comb the bush?

According to them, they combed the bush, but I want to believe they went through the other side. If they had reinforced immediately and searched everywhere, the story might have been different.

Adamawa APC senator withdraws from Tinubu’s campaign team over Muslim-Muslim ticket

Adamawa APC senator withdraws from Tinubu’s campaign team over Muslim-Muslim ticket

The senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, popularly known as sex-toy senator, has resigned his membership from the campaign group of the All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Bola Tinubu.

This was as he called Tinubu irresponsible for picking the former governor of Borno State, Kashhim Shettima, a Muslim, as APC vice presidential candidate.

Abbo had earlier tweeted about his stance but shared details of his decision with journalists on Monday in Abuja.

Abbo added that he met with a support group in Abuja in search of a running mate for Tinubu.

The group concluded that Tinubu should not pick a Muslim as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.

Abbo said Tinubu has refused to learn from his predecessor, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) Who opted for a Christian running mate in 2015.

He said, “For Tinubu now to be given the ticket and turn around to do what he couldn’t achieve in 2015 despite opposition from Catholics and other Christian leaders is extremely irresponsible.

“Buhari fought a civil war and understands the consequences of a divided nation. When Tinubu wanted to be VP in 2015, Buhari said no because he understood the importance of unity.

“We sat down in Abuja and strategised and we concluded that he should not take a Muslim as running mate. He (Tinubu) threw away the report.

“My conscience will not allow me to campaign for Tinubu. I am a member of CAN; I cannot deny CAN. I remain in APC. But I will take the survival of my country first over political considerations.”

He added, “We cannot work for such a man. I will oppose Christian-Christian ticket because I am interested in the stability of this country. A Christian-Christian ticket will be insensitive to Muslims of this country.

“The country is evenly divided among Muslims and Christians. So any government that is Muslim-Muslim will be illegitimate and will never gain the respect of Christians.

  • Kenneth Okonkwo resigns membership from APC over Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket

Kenneth Okonkwo resigns membership from APC over Muslim-Muslim Presidential ticket

In a press statement released on the movie star’s official Instagram page on Monday, July 11, 2022, he cited the decision of the ruling party to field a Muslim-Muslim presidential candidate for the 2023 elections as a major reason for his resignation.⁣
    .⁣
“If Muslims could voluntarily vote for southern presidents it is then a fallacy to insinuate that they cannot accept a northern Christian vice president,” part of the statement read.⁣
    .⁣
“This will permanently destroy the political viability of Northern Christians in Nigeria if allowed to stand. This is in the addition to the failure to protect lives and properties of Nigerians which should be their primary responsibility. The country is also in shatters.”⁣
    .⁣
The actor said he’ll resigned his membership in the interest of equity, justice, fairness and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.⁣
    .⁣
It would be recalled that Sen. Bola Tinubu, APC’s 2023 presidential candidate in Daura, Katsina State, announced Shettima, a Muslim and a former two-term Governor of Borno, as his running mate.⁣
    .⁣
Shettima is currently representing Borno Central in the National Assembly.⁣
