Lagos state govt adds Baba Ijesha’s name to list of s€xual offenders

The Lagos state government has enlisted the name of Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, aka Baba Ijesha, into its register of s€xual offenders in the state.

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency confirmed this to Punch. .

“All details of s€x convicts are immediately enrolled into the sex offenders registers once a conviction is secured.”Executive Secretary of the agency, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said

Recall that on Thursday, July 14, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and S€xual Offences Court on Thursday sentenced Baba Ijesha to 16 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting the foster daughter of comedienne, Princess. 

Baba Ijesha was arraigned on six counts of child defilement that include indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted s€xual assault by penetration, and sexual assault by penetration proffered against him by the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Although the prosecution argued that the offenses contravened sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262, and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders, Baba Ijesha pleaded not guilty to all the counts. A Closed-Circuit Television video recording detailing his relationship with the victim said to be a minor was played in court.

Delivering its judgement, Justice Taiwo stated that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was guilty of all the charges against him but however found him guilty of four of the six counts against him.

Baba Ijesha was found guilty of count two, three, four and five; for count two, he was jailed for three years; count three, five years; count four, three years, and bagged five years for count five.

Two catholic priests identified as Reverend Father John Cheitnum and Reverend Father Donatus Cleopas were reportedly abducted in Jere Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna state on Friday., July 15.

In a statement released, the Chancellor of Kafanchan Catholic Diocese, Reverend Father Emmanuel Okolo, said that the two priests were kidnapped by bandits at about 5pm on Friday while they were on pastoral duty at the rectory of Christ The King Catholic Church, Yadin Garu.

The Catholic chancellor prayed for the safe and quick return of the abducted priests and urged members of the Catholic community in Kafanchan to remain law abiding and prayerful.

The state police command is yet to confirm the incident.

Their abduction comes less than two weeks after another priest, Reverend Father Emmanuel Silas, was kidnapped by bandits from the parish rectory of Saint Charles Catholic Church, Zamina in Kauru LGA.

The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has said that it is difficult to control the s€xual libido of Internally Displaced People IDPs after 80 babies were delivered in its IDP camps in the state in seven months.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr Emmanuel Shior, disclosed this to newsmen during the agency’s monthly distribution of relief materials to the IDPson Friday, July 15.

He said that the deliveries were registered by the agency and most of the IDPs were staying with their partners and this accounted for the high number of births recorded in the camps.

“The agency is very strict on illicit s€xual affairs in the camps. It is very difficult to control the tide of births in the camps, the IDPs are human beings. 

It is the nature of man, even when they don’t have food to eat, they have the desire for s€x; that cannot be taken away from the IDPs. Most of them have their families at the camps.

The aspect we try to control is unmarried people sleeping with each other; other unlawful s€xual acts are also forbidden in the camps” Shior said

Major General Hassan Ahmed, a former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, has been assassinated in Abuja.

He was murdered on Thursday in the Abaji area of Abuja.
