Gunmen
attacked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge along Udo Ekong
Ekwere street, off Information Drive in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State and rap3d
corps members.

According to Punch, the gunmen who invaded the
Corpers’ lodge on tricycles around 1:am on Wednesday, July 6, also
carted away valuables including laptops, cell phones and cash.

Narrating
th
e incident, one of the corps members, who identified himself as Emeka
Emmanuel said, “They arrived on a tricycle, popularly called Keke and
immediately started operation. They beamed high-intensity torchlight
everywhere and pounced on every door with heavy iron and threatened to
sh00t us if we fail to cooperate.”

A female Corps member, who
also spoke on condition of anonymity, said her phones, laptop, cash were
forcefully taken away from her after the hoodlums gained entrance into
her room from the back door.

“You know at that period of the
night, most of us females, we used to sleep naked and the suddenness of
the attack caught us unprepared. They beamed the torch through the
window and threatened to shoot if the door is not quickly opened.” she
explained.

“I have never heard of this anywhere in Nigeria, even
in the North, where insecurity is at the highest peak, that Corpers
could be deliberately targetted, rap3d, and robbed by criminals at
gunpoint. Is it because we are not from Akwa Ibom that no one could hear
our shouts and come to save us?”another female colleague, lamented.

Mr.
Nsikak Ibanga, a night guard at the State Secretariat of the Nigeria
Union of Journalists which is located opposite the corpers lodge said,
“I raised alarm by hitting the supporting pillars holding the
reconstructed NUJ auditorium. The sound reverberated across the whole
area but no response”.

Another neighbour, Bassey Offiong, said,
“When I heard the attack and the outcry of the Corpers, I quickly
reached out to the Police at Ikot Akpanabia Command, which is very close
here, but they arrived a little late after the criminals had finished
and left with their tricycle”.

The Youth Leader of the area,
Comrade Godwin Okpo, blamed the inability of the youths to come out on
noise of generators running into late night in most homes.

 Gunmen
attacked the residence of a pastor, Rev. Daniel Umaru, k!lled his two
sons and abducted his 13-year-old daughter in Mubi, Adamawa State. 
 

Details
of the incident are still sketchy at the time of filing this report but
it was gathered that the gunmen stormed the cleric’s house on Tuesday
night, July 5, and shot him in the leg.   

According to report,
Rev. Umaru, who is the Pastor in charge of EYN Church (Ikilisiya Yan’uwa
a Nijeria-Church of Brethren in Nigeria) Nja Njairi, Mubi, is fighting
for his life in a hospital while his wife is currently in coma due to
shock. 
 
One Evangelist Lawi Baturendole Yusuf, confirmed the incident via Facebook on Tuesday, July 6. 
 
“I
can’t hold my tears anymore, I’m tired of this wicked would, people now
become like animals? I wake up this morning with tears all over me,
this young guys kiledl by unknown gunmen ysdy at njeri mubi and shut the
father on his leg, this is not enough for them they pick the remaining
only daughter to unknown place, pls God save ur children’s in Nigeria,
rest in peace my brother’s, we pray for quick Rev Daniel Umaru,also for
the mother who is unconscious. God will take charge of the revenge, pls
let’s pray for the daughter in captivity.” he wrote.

Beatrice, wife of the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is being held at HMP Bronzefield prison in the United Kingdom, SaharaReporters has gathered.

HMP Bronzefield is an adult and young offender female prison located on the outskirts of Ashford in Surrey, England. 

Bronzefield is the only purpose-built private prison solely for women in the UK, and is the largest female prison in Europe. 

The prison is operated by Sodexo Justice Services.

According to Sodexo Justice Services, the facility accommodates 572 women and comprises four house blocks housing approximately 130 women on each one.

“Each wing has a servery unit for women to collect their food which they can choose to eat together on the wing or take back to their cells. We provide telephones in each room which is integral in helping women to maintain their family ties,” the services said on its website.

The women are unlocked at 08:00hrs for breakfast and to receive any medication they may require. At 09:00hrs the women will go to their lessons or work. They will break for lunch at 12:00hrs for two hours. In the afternoon they will return to their work location. At 16:30hrs the women will return to their houseblocks for association and dinner before lock up at 18:45hrs,” it added.

The Uxbridge Magistrate Court last week denied Beatrice access to Ekweremadu who is being detained in another prison.

The Enugu West senator was arrested alongside his wife two weeks ago by the London Metropolitan Police for allegedly conspiring to take a child to the UK for organ harvesting.

The couple were tried at the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in London and denied bail as the prosecutors reportedly informed the court that Ekweremadu procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old only to discover that he was 15 years old.

The case has been adjourned to July 7 at Westminster Magistrate Court to enable the UK Attorney General, Suella Braverman, determine whether the case will be tried in the country or in Nigeria.
