The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Akure North State Constituency, Engr. Temiloluwa Oluwalade, popularly known as E.T.O, has launched the second edition of the Legacy Football Club 5-Aside Football Tournament as part of efforts to promote youth empowerment and grassroots sports development in the constituency.
The week-long competition, which carries a grand prize of ₦250,000, is scheduled to hold from July 14 to July 19, 2026, at the Legacy Lounge and Club 5-Aside Football Pitch, located at KM4, Becky Parker Secondary School, Oba-Ile, Akure.
According to the organisers, 16 teams drawn from across Akure North are expected to compete for the championship, with the tournament aimed at discovering young football talents, encouraging healthy competition and fostering unity among youths in the constituency.
Speaking on the initiative, Oluwalade said the competition forms part of his broader commitment to empowering young people and creating opportunities beyond the political space.
He noted that sports remain a veritable tool for youth engagement, talent discovery and community development, stressing that investments in young people would contribute significantly to building a more productive and prosperous society.
The ADC standard bearer added that his vision for Akure North extends beyond electoral politics, emphasizing the need to support initiatives that positively engage youths through sports, education and other developmental programmes.
He expressed optimism that the tournament would not only provide a platform for budding footballers to showcase their abilities but also strengthen social cohesion among young people across the constituency.
Residents and football enthusiasts are expected to witness six days of competitive action as participating teams vie for honours and the tournament’s ₦250,000 star prize.
The second edition of the Legacy Football Club 5-Aside Football Tournament is expected to build on the success of its maiden edition, further reinforcing grassroots sports as a catalyst for youth empowerment and community development in Akure North.
