Hon. Mathew Oyerinmade, popularly known as MATO, has withdrawn the suit he instituted against Hon. Festus Adefinranye over the substitution of his name by the All Progressives Congress National Working Committee in the House of Representatives primary election for the Ileoluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency.
The suit was withdrawn on Wednesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where counsel to Oyerinmade, Dr. Remi Olatubora, SAN, informed the court that his client had decided to discontinue the case for personal reasons.
Counsel representing the Independent National Electoral Commission and that of the respondent, Adefinranye, reportedly aligned with the application for withdrawal.
Following the application, the presiding judge granted an order dismissing the suit. The matter was subsequently struck out and removed from the court’s cause list.
The development effectively brings to an end the legal challenge mounted by Oyerinmade over the APC’s decision to substitute his name in connection with the federal constituency’s primary election.
A statement signed by Segun Odidi, Esq., on behalf of the MATO Mandate Group, said the clarification was necessary to set the record straight and properly inform members of the public and political stakeholders about the latest development.
The group described the withdrawal as a decision taken by Oyerinmade for personal reasons, without providing further details.
The development is expected to put to rest the litigation surrounding the controversial substitution, while attention now shifts to the political implications of the withdrawal for the APC and its candidates in the constituency.
