Niger Delta militants jettison decision to declare Niger Delta Republic today, say Jonathan appealed to them

Ijaw Militant group, the Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA), who vowed to declare
the Independent Republic of Niger Delta today August 1st, have
jettisoned the decision saying former President Goodluck Jonathan
reached out and appealed to them to rescind on their decision. The group
stated this in a statement released this evening. The statement reads
    in part;

“We adhere to the voice of our people, because our struggle is for the
Niger Delta people and not for selfish reason. But this is not the end.
More has yet to come. Our mission to cripple the economy of the Nigerian
nation will not stop until the Nigerian government is ready to sit on a
roundtable to dialogue and to restructure the Nigeria. We received
calls from prominent leaders like Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Mrs.
Ankio Briggs, Chief E. K. Clark and especially King Alfred Diete Spiff
calling on the freedom fighters to abort their mission to declare Niger
Delta Republic. Unless that, we will not stop until Nigeria becomes a
    zero economy.

We are also saying this for the benefit of President
Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerian government to stop wasting their time with
those greedy fellows that call themselves MEND because nothing good
will come out of them rather than sabotage. Everything they are saying,
not even one will be accomplished. We will never agree with anything
they say and henceforth MEND should watch their back because we have
tolerated them for a very long time. Enough is enough, since they want
to set confusion in the Niger Delta we will start from them.”

Photos/Video: Man chops off wife’s hands for not conceiving after seven years of marriage

A 34-year-old Kenyan man allegedly chopped off
the hands of his wife of seven years with a large knife because she cannot
have children, in what is said to be the most atrocious cases of
    domestic violence.
    28-year-old
Jackline Mwende from Kathama Village, Masii in Machakos County, had her
hands chopped off at the wrist by her husband, Stephen Ngila Thenge (right) on
    July 24.

    She is also
nursing injuries on her head and neck from the gruesome attack.
Relatives say the couple had been having issues and Ms Mwende wanted
to leave her husband but was advised against it by “their pastor”

    Ms Mwende, who
spoke told the Nation Kenya at her father’s Kathama home, where she
now stays after her discharge from the hospital on Friday, July 29, said
    that before the
attack, they had separated for about three months over failure to have
    children

“I could not understand why he was blaming me yet we had gone to
hospital last year and the doctors had said he was the one with issues,
which could be corrected,” she said. She said her husband, a tailor at Masii town, refused to follow up on treatment.

“He moved out of our house three months ago and came back
on Sunday (July 24) at around 8.30pm. When I opened the door, he said
‘today is your last day’ and started slashing me with the panga.”
Ms Mwende called out for help but the man fled before neighbours arrived.

“They were all afraid of touching me, they thought I was dead. I was
rushed to Machakos Hospital where I was given painkillers and got a
blood transfusion. I was discharged on Friday.”
Shocked villagers described Mr Thenge is a very “polite man”. The man was arrested on Monday July 25 in Machakos town
hours after he fled his home in Masii.
Ms Mwende’s jobless parents are now appealing for help to take care of their child.

    Mr Samuel Munyoki said:
“We want justice for our daughter. The person who
did this should pay for it. She is now disabled and will need artificial
hands to get her life together but we can’t afford anything. We are
poor, we can’t even afford her painkillers.”
Ms Mwende said she was leaving everything to God even as she
expected justice from the courts. Machakos women Representative Dr Susan
    Musyoka condemned violence and
    said justice must be done.

Lobi Stars players protest over unpaid salaries

The players of Lobi Stars Football
Club’s feeder team on Monday staged a protest at the gates of Benue
State’s government house over the non-payment of salaries, match
bonuses, poor management and other issues.

The protesters demanded to see Governor Samuel Ortom.

The captain of the feeder team, Tar
Terhemen, told journalists that they had not been paid January to July
    2016 salaries and match bonuses.

He said there was no reason for the debt
since the government provide funds to the vice-chairman of the club, Mr
Mike Idoko, through the office of the deputy governor.
    Terhemen explained that the new
management did not care about their welfares, ”they will asked us to go
for matches aside the state without given us a penny for accommodations
    and feeding money”.
Terhemen said the players used to receive N7000 as match bonus but the present management slashed it to N5000 and, later, N3000.
”We were one time abandoned in Lagos and
Kano states after playing matches and thirty of us were jag parked in
one hotel room for days. Some of us are not from Benue State, we came
from different states and have people to cater for but see how we are
    been maltreated here.
After series of singing and chatting for
several hours, the chairman of Lobi stars football club of Makurdi and
deputy governor of the state, Engineer Benson Abounu later directed the
Media officer of the club, Mr. Emmanuel Ujah to address them and
consequently bring the players to his office.
The Captain of the team in company of
two other players went to the deputy governor office leaving the
remaining protesters at the main government.
The deputy governor thereafter held a
closed door meeting with the players which lasted for about hour with
the vice chairman Mr. Idoko in attendance. The outcome of the meeting
    was not disclosed.
It would be recalled that chairman of
the club has stated that N37.5million the Independent Corrupt Practices
and other related offences Commission ICPC, accused of paying into the
Deputy Governor account out of bail fund was meant to settled lobi
    players salary.

  • Seven things your ATM card can do

Seven things your ATM card can do

Most customers feel comfortable using their debit cards to withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machine.
    ATM Machine

Some have gone the extra steps of using it to pay for goods and services at the Point of Sale machine.
However, the plastic can do a lot for
customers and totally transform their transaction life if they are
careful and versatile with its usage.

    View account balances

With your card, you can visit the ATM,
insert the card, and punch in your Personal Identification Number.
Select view account balance to know your balance.
    Get mini statements
    Mini statements are the shortened
version of what your bank sends to you after every three months. That is
    your bank account statement.
The bank can also provide you with a
printed passbook detailing all the transactions you have done in a
particular month. But if you hate going to your bank because of the long
queues and pesky customers surrounding the bank’s teller inquiring
about their accounts, your ATM card can be used to give you a mini
statement on the go. This statement gives details about the last five to
six transactions on your bank account.
    Transfer money between accounts
You have two different accounts with the
same bank or different banks, you can transfer the funds to the account
of your choice. For instance, if your salary is paid into a particular
bank but you prefer to keep your money in another bank, you can always
transfer the funds to your preferred account using your ATM. Go to your
bank’s ATM, follow the procedure and transfer funds from the first
account to the second account. You can use it to pay into another
    person’s account.
    Refill your prepaid SIM card
    Modern-day technology has helped
interconnect telecommunications with your bank account. Now you can even
refill or recharge your prepaid SIM card at your bank’s ATM.
Again you will need to punch in your PIN
and then follow the commands that appear on the screen till the time
you are done refilling your account.
However, do take care to remember the
amount for which you need the refill. Your service provider should
support the amount you key in.
    Pay your utility bills
This is one facility that helps you cut
through long, serpentine queues. Your ATM card will help you make
payments on all these consumer services.
Just find the nearest ATM kiosk, be
ready with your PIN and you won’t have to spend hours standing in the
scorching sun to make your utility bill payments.
    Deposit cash or cheques
This is what some conservative bank
customers won’t like. For years, they have been visiting their bank
branch to meet the genial teller at the counter, deposit their cash or
cheque, make some small talk and then go back to do their mundane
    chores.
The ATMs seem to have dispensed with
this old-world charm thing as well. In fact, many a time you will find
your bank encouraging you to avail yourself of these services using your
    ATM card.
However, those still romancing the old
ways of banking and those who think that banking is all about people and
relationships can visit their bank’s branch, meet the bankers they know
and avail of most of the services mentioned above.
    ATM cards as debit cards
This is one facility that spendthrift consumers should take advantage of.
If you have enough cash in your bank
account, then you can always flash your ATM card to buy and pay through
    the Point of Sale machine.
The transaction process works the same
way with your credit card. The only difference being the use of debit
card at a merchant’s outlet will make you poorer by the transaction
    amount immediately.
But then, this is always better than
using a credit card considering the amount of complaints you may have
    against your credit card company.
Apart from these, you can book your air tickets using your ATM.

  • 19 militants held as NAF jets destroy four camps in S’West

19 militants held as NAF jets destroy four camps in S’West

Pilots of the Nigerian Air Force fighter jets have destroyed the four major camps of suspected militants, who are said to be armed pipeline vandals at Arepo, Ogun State, on the fourth day of the sustained aerial attacks on the hoodlums in the area.

    Nigerian Air Force Fighter jet
The Director of Information and Public Relations of the NAF, Group Capt. Ayodele Famuyiwa, told The PUNCHon the telephone on Sunday that the NAF was intensifying aerial operations during the day and the night to dislodge the militants terrorising riverside communities of Ogun and Lagos states.
Famuyiwa said the NAF was carrying out sustained operations against the vandals to prepare the stage for the ground troops to move in and get rid of the gunmen.
Investigation revealed that the fighter pilots of the NAF had carried out successful strikes on the two major camps in the Fatola and Abuja and two other areas.
Famuyiwa said the embattled militants were fleeing their fortress into the mangrove forest and were being monitored effectively by platforms deployed for the operation.
The Air Force spokesman explained that the NAF had carried out surveillance activities on the hoodlums to gather the necessary information about their activities before the commencement of the current aerial bombardments.
He said the fighter pilots were using rockets against the vandals because they built their tents on pipelines, which made it difficult to use bombs in the operation.
Famuyiwa stated that bombs could destroy pipelines apart from the fact that those dropped on water might not explode immediately and could become a problem in future.
He said, “So, for now, it is just the Air Force that is operating in that area. We started with intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance basically, to gather information about the position of those people, how fortified are they, and to look into the things that they are doing.
“After that survey, we have been able to identify targets to be eliminated. The first strike was conducted on Thursday. We struck at their camps and the whole essence is to take them up so that we can dislodge them from that area pending the time that the surface forces would be able to come in.
“So, every day, we have been striking and we are doing both night and day operation. There are about four camps that have been identified, that we have struck.
“The challenge is that you need to be able to match your targets with your weapons. Don’t forget that those idiots built their tents on the pipelines. It appears that it is not something that started today, it is something that has been on for years.’’
Famuyiwa added, “When we hit those camps, they are now moving deeper into the forest. So we cannot say that you can just dislodge them for a while, they might want to come back. So what we are doing is that we have intensified our surveillance activities to bomb them deep into the mangrove forest.
“Like I said, they are very crafty people, they have built their camps, on the pipelines to be able siphon fuel. So, what we are doing is to use rockets to fire at them; you can get some level of destruction of the tents but you may not destroy the tents completely, but you can be sure that any human element that is there, it is going to kill them.”
Famuyiwa explained further that video clips from the aerial offensive against the militants showed that they were well armed and very organised.
According to him, they had GPMG mounted on canoes on their observation posts, which showed that they had been involved in the vandalisation of the pipelines for long.
The Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, told one of our correspondents on Saturday that the military would sustain the operations to ensure that the camps of the vandals were removed.
However, neither Famuyiwa nor Abubakar could give the casualty figure in the four-day aerial pounding of the hideouts of the hoodlums.
A source involved in the operation said on Sunday that there was continuing rocket fire while ground troops and other security agents were in strategic locations in the area.
The source said the armed vandals were holed up in the area and could not provide any resistance to the military onslaught on them.
“The operation is not over. These guys are still inside there. The military is still pounding their locations.
“You know that the terrain is very difficult, you can only get there with canoes but the troops have blocked the entire place. Only the military can tell you when ground forces will move in,” Abubakar stated.
    NSCDC arrests 19  fleeing militants
No fewer than 19 suspected militants have been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the ongoing aerial bombardment of creeks in the Fatola and Arepo areas of Ogun State.
It was gathered that some of the suspects were apprehended while fleeing from their camps being shelled by the Nigerian military.
Although the military had assured residents of the areas of safety, the operation had created panic among some people in the areas. While some residents had fled their homes, others were forced to remain indoors.
It was learnt that while the operation continued, operatives, comprising the police, NSCDC, Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Army mounted roadblocks at strategic places that could be used as escape routes by the militants.
An official of the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, who participated in the operations, told one of our correspondents on Sunday that 19 militants were in the corps’ custody.
He said, “Nineteen militants were arrested around the Ishawo, Igbo Olomu and Elepete areas of Ikorodu on Saturday and Sunday. Some of them were caught after fleeing from the areas being bombarded while others were arrested based on information by residents. NSCDC officials from Ondo, Ogun and Oyo states are with us. We are about150. The bombardment is still on.”
The spokesperson for the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Kehinde Bada, confirmed the arrest, adding that investigation was ongoing.
She said, “It was a joint operation involving our men, the police, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force. So far, we have arrested 19 suspected militants, some of who fled their base, having realised their game was up.”

  • Nigeria will disintegrate before Buhari’s very eyes if any more innocent blood is shed- FFK

Nigeria will disintegrate before Buhari’s very eyes if any more innocent blood is shed- FFK

The former Aviation Minister said this in a new post he shared on his Facebook wall. It reads

“On 29th July 2016, CNN reported that “the Nigerian government is
preparing troops for a crackdown in the Niger Delta if peace talks
    fail”.

This is sad and ominous. As United States Senator Ted Cruz once said
“the light of truth is stronger than the terror of darkness”.

It follows that the biggest mistake that the Buhari administtation can
possibly make is to attempt to “crack down” on the Niger Delta and kill
    innocent civilians.

If this ever happens, for whatever reason, it will set off a chain of
events that will lead to the end of Nigeria as we know it.

Nigeria will disintegrate before Buhari’s very eyes if any more innocent
blood is shed and if the towns, creeks and villages of the
oil-producing states are shelled and reduced to rubble.

The cause of the people of the Niger Delta, and indeed that of the Igbo
people of the eastern states, is just and their struggles and
    aspirations are legitimate and reasonable.

Self-detetmination is a right. It is a concept and principle that is
universally accepted and that has the backing of international law.

You do not threaten and bomb those that seek to exercise that right: you
treat them with respect, decency and decorum and attempt to persuade
    them to stay.

This is a point that is lost on President Buhari and those around him.
The Avengers are not Boko Haram: taking them on in the field of battle
    would be a monumental error.

  • Niger Delta militant group, MEND, claims FG has agreed to release NNamdi Kanu, Okah brothers

Niger Delta militant group, MEND, claims FG has agreed to release NNamdi Kanu, Okah brothers

Niger Delta Militant group, MEND, has released a statement alleging that
the President Buhari-led administration has agreed to release the
leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB Nnamdi Kanu and Charles
and Henry Okah, suspected masterminds of the 2010 Independence Day
    bombing in Abuja.

In a statement released by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo, MEND said the
decision to free the men was reached at a negotiation meeting which was
facilitated by former Senate President, Adolphus Nwabara.

    The statement reads in part ;

“The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is the
only militant group from the Niger Delta region who are presently
engaged in a dialogue with the federal government of Nigeria through oil
companies and security agencies -with a view to resolving the current
Niger Delta crisis. Thus far, the deliberations have been fruitful,
various concessions and guarantees have already been secured. Some of
which include, but are not limited to: release of Henry Okah, Charles
Okah and Obi Nwabueze; review of the life sentence handed to Mr. Edmund
Ebiware based on a proposal put forward by the Aaron Team representative
for Abia and Imo states, Senator Adolphus Wabara. Also, conditional
release of IPOB leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and others if they renounce
their agitation for a “Biafra Republic,”.

The statement by the group adds that part of the agreement includes the
that wanted militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo will not be arrested
if he comes out of hiding.
