Former NFL player Antonio Armstrong and wife shot dead by 16-year-old son

The teenage son of former NFL player and Miami Dolphins linebacker has been charged
with murdering his parents at their home in Houston, Texas.

The 16-year-old was charged as a juvenile andis being questioned by
investigators in connection with the deaths of Antonio and Dawn
    Armstrong, NBC reports.

Armstrong, 42,  who spent a season as a linebacker with the Miami Dolphins,
and his wife Dawn were both shot in the early hours of Friday morning.
Ms Armstrong died at the scene, while her husband was later pronounced
dead at the city’s Memorial Hermann Hospital, having suffered a gunshot
    wound to his head
Three of the couple’s children were in the house at the time of
the shooting, police said, including a 20-year-old son and a teenage
daughter, neither of whom were hurt. The suspect called 911
at around 1.30am, shortly after the shooting occurred. His name has not been released because of age.
Police said they did not believe there was any history of domestic
abuse in the family. Houston police homicide investigator Jimmy Dodson
told KPRC that the Armstrongs were “an outstanding family”
adding that Mr Armstrong was an associate pastor at a local church.
“He’s a great guy. The mother was apparently a great mother, according
to family members,” Mr Dodson said. “It was kind of the all-American
    family.”
Mr Armstrong had been a college football star at Texas A&M
University, and was named an All-American in his senior season as a
linebacker for the A&M Aggies. He was drafted by the San Francisco
49ers in the sixth round of the 1995 NFL Draft but fractured an ankle in
training and was released later that year, signing with the Dolphins,
for whom he played four games.
A motivational speaker and fitness trainer, he and his wife owned a
chain of three gyms called First Class Training in the Houston area.
Former A&M head coach RC Slocum said in a statement:
    “Antonio was a
special young man. He was an all-American and an outstanding player, but
he was an even better person. He was such a positive influence on his
teammates. He always had a great big smile and a joy to coach”

  • Army releases arrested Tompolo associates

    Army releases arrested Tompolo associates

    WARRI- THE Nigeria Army
has released three suspected associates of runaway ex-militant leader,
Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, arrested about a fortnight ago in
Warri, Delta State, on suspicion that they have link with the Niger
Delta Avengers, NDA and know the whereabouts of the runaway ex-militant
    leader.

Two of the suspects, Simeone Bebenimibo, a member of the Delta Waterways
and Land Security Committee, DWLSC, Warri and Bomby Oluba hail from
Okerenkoko community, Gbaramatu kingdom in the state. The other, Ayiri,
an Itsekiri, is a driver to the Chief Security Officer, CSO, to Tompolo,
    Ebipade Kari.

Tompolo cried out, last week, in an open letter to President Muhammadu
Buhari, cried out that his family and associates were under siege by the
army, navy and DSS, while his 84-year-old father, Chief Thomas
Ekpemupolo, brutalized by soldiers had his leg amputated recently by
    doctors to save his life.

He pointed fingers at two APC politicians in the state, who he said were
working in connivance with security agents to tarnish his image because
of their greed for money and pipeline contracts.

His family in a statement by Frank Ekpemupolo also decried the continued
military assault and brutality on members, saying the witch-hunt of
Tompolo by APC leaders in the area does not represent national interest.

The family appealed to President Buhari “to put to an end these
political and military madness directed at the Niger Delta and
    Ekpemupolo’s family in particular.”

I know the person that framed me – Bebenimibo
Saturday Vanguard spoke with Bebenimibo, on phone, yesterday. He said:
“Actually, I know nothing about the Niger Delta Avengers. I am a
politician, a onetime councilor representing Gbaramatu ward, Okerenkoko,
one- time SA on Security to Governor Timipre Sylva and presently,
Member, Delta State Waterways and Lands Security Committee.”

“Before I was arrested, I was receiving threat messages on my phone from
one of my younger cousins, that I am part of the Niger Delta Avengers
and that he is going to arrest me.

“I told him that if you are the one that is going to arrest me, I would
be very proud because I would know where my problems are coming from,
but though I never believed he was go to go through with his plan,” he
    said.

    Bebenimibo stated:

“My arrest was a setup and I am saying this
categorically because when I was arrested, members of my immediate and
extended family confronted the person having being aware of earlier
threat messages he sent to me.”

“When accosted, he boasted to them that I am going to rot in detention
as far as the APC government, which he is a member is in power for
having the effrontery to boast with him,” he added.

    How they arrested me

“On the day of my arrest, I think on the 17th or18th of July, I was in
my house at about 1.00 a.m, before I knew what was going on, soldiers
invaded my compound in Warri. Owing to the fact that everywhere was
locked up, they jumped into the compound through the fence, using a
ladder from inside the compound, stretched it on the house, which is a
duplex and climbed into one of the balcony in the apartment.

”At the balcony, there is an adjourning door, which they broke down to
enable them gain access into the apartment. Inside the apartment, they
went to the bedroom of my eldest son, who is 12 years old, apprehended
him and asked him to take them to my room.

“Inside my room, I asked the operation officer, who is an Army Captain
that led them to my room what is the problem? He then told me that
someone reported me to them that I am a member of the Niger Delta
Avengers. Right there, I told him that I do not know about anything that
he is talking about and there is nothing I am going to say on the
    matter,” he said.

    My release
Bebenimibo said: “Not satisfied, I was taken away to the 3 Battalion,
Effurun, near Warri, amidst sufferings and was detained for 11 or 12
days, but after their investigations, they did not find anything
incriminating against me. They were making plans to transfer me to Asaba
or Bayelsa, but by the special Grace of God, I was released on Thursday
    at about 6.00 p.m.”

He told Saturday Vanguard: “I cannot really tell what they found out in
the course of my interrogation, but to the best of my knowledge, I am
free of the allegations and that was why I was released unconditionally,
but earlier, they were telling me that I am innocent of the allegations
leveled against me. Personally, I am embarrassed by the incident.”

“I was interrogated severally while in custody. They asked if I know
anything about the Niger Delta Avengers, I told them no.

What they asked me about Tompolo
“They also asked me who is Tompolo and who he is to me, I told them that
Tompolo is my leader, my cousin and my Oga, but I do not know if he is
the Avenger. However, that he is my brother, but I have not spoken with
him for a while because of these problems and I do not know where he is.

“ They also asked about some of his (Tompolo) boys that were working
with him, I also told them that I do not know anything about that, as I
have not seen them for some time now and that though, I know them in
person, I do not know anything about them,” he said.

His words: “They never fed me and even if they had tried to, I do not
think I would have been able to eat their food, but the CO was a very
kind man to us. He ordered his boys to allow us buy whatever food we
want to eat and I was spending my money for feeding while we were in
    detention.”

“Soldiers arrested me in company of one of my cousins, Bomboy Oluba,
together with one Ayiri, an Itsekiri driver to the Chief Security
Officer, CSO, to Tompolo, Ebipade Kari, on allegation that he knows the
    whereabouts of Tompolo.

“He was brought in a day after my arrest; three of us have been
released. They did not tell us to return for further briefing or
interrogation on the matter, as we were all released unconditionally,”
    he said

  • Naval officer shoots okada rider in Kogi

Naval officer shoots okada rider in Kogi

The Network on Police Reform in Nigeria
has called for an investigation of Navy Commander Otuh Bassey, who shot
an okada rider, Muhammed Idachaba, in Idah, Kogi State.
Idachaba was shot by on Tuesday, 26
July, 2016 after Bassey allegedly frog-matched him and told him to kneel
as punishment for claiming right of way with the naval officer who was
    riding an SUV.

In a report by NOPRIN describing “the
inhuman and degrading treatment and shooting of a motorcycle rider,” it
was learnt that the motorcycle rider was riding from Sabon Gari area of
Idah when Navy Commander Bassey, who is said to be the Assistant
Commandant of the Idah Naval Post attempted to shove him off the road
    with his Pathfinder SUV.
The group said in a statement signed by
its National Commander, Okechukwu Nwanguma, “Because the road was bad,
the motorcycle rider felt that the Naval officer was trying to manoeuvre
    through the potholes.
“A little distance ahead, the okada
rider met the same Naval officer parked by the roadside and as he
passed, the Naval officer entered his vehicle and gave chase. He
double-crossed the okada rider and forced him to a stop.
“The Naval officer, who was carrying a
girl in his SUV, came out from his car and ordered the okada rider to
park his bike, and he obeyed. He ordered him to kneel down and he also
obeyed, and he then ordered him to frog-match.”
    NOPRIN said information it gathered
showed that the encounter took a different turn when it became apparent
that the punishment being meted out to the okada rider was for a past
    grievance.
The Naval officer reportedly asked if
the okada rider remembered what he told him during the last state
    assembly re-run election at Ogegele.
NOPRIN said the Naval officer told his
victim “that he promised that he was going to waste him any moment, and
    that the time has come.
“At this point, the Naval officer drew
his pistol and started to shoot the boy and that he shot him several
times until the boy fell in a poll of his own blood.
“Believing that the okada rider was
dead, the Naval officer entered his SUV and drove to a motor park where
he dropped off the girl he was carrying in his car and left.”
Saturday learnt that unknown to the Naval officer, a plain-clothe policeman witnessed the incident nearby.
The policeman would later trail Bassey to the motor park.
As soon as the naval officer dropped off his female passenger, the policeman arrested her and took her to the police station.
“The girl then called the Naval officer
from the police station and informed him about her arrest. He arrived
at the police station and made statement claiming that he did not shoot
the boy on purpose,” NOPRIN said.
That the okada rider was taken to
Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja. But the medical centre workers were on
strike. He is scheduled to go for surgery on Monday August 12, 2016.
NOPRIN said it considers the action of
the Naval officer, a gross abuse of power and disgraceful to the image
and professional integrity of the Nigerian Navy.
The group has now called on the Chief of
Naval Staff, Ibok Ekwe Ibas, to investigate Bassey for his conduct. It
says the Naval officer has to be dismissed or handed over to the police
    for prosecution.
    Spokesperson for the Navy, Commodore
Christian Ezekobe, was not available for comment on this case on Friday
as his line remained unreachable as of press time.

  • The reason most women are not sexually satisfied

The reason most women are not sexually satisfied

Tunde Ajaja – Punch News Papers
Sex has been described as one of the
activities that boost closeness in marriage, but the lack of it, or its
inadequacy, can equally be detrimental to the success of union.
This all-important activity is so vital
that marriage counsellors and psychologists often advise couples not to
joke with it, for the sake of keeping their homes together, even if they
have to prepare a timetable for it, so that the needs of both parties
can be well taken care of.
Meanwhile, sex is only good when the two
persons enjoyed the act and reached climax (ejaculation for men and
orgasm for women), but findings have shown that in most cases, men reach
orgasm in about 95 per cent of their sexual activities while about 25
per cent of women reach orgasm in their sexual encounters.

Mrs. Motun (surname withheld) is one of
such women who could count how many times she has reached orgasm on her
fingers; even with that, she won’t go far on the first five fingers.
“And you know the irony there, my
husband and I have sex at least thrice a week, but he’s the only one who
enjoys it,” she told our correspondent.
    She continued, “Perhaps there is
something wrong somewhere. It has almost become a norm and it is an
issue you can’t talk to anyone about, so as not to be labelled as being
wild. After two to three minutes, my husband ejaculates and that is the
end. And the most annoying part is that he sleeps off shortly after. It
    can be so annoying.
“Initially, I thought it was normal, but
while interacting with people, I found that a woman can also reach
orgasm. Maybe because I didn’t have experience about sex before I
married, so I didn’t know much about it. The situation has made me to
lose interest in sex because he puts me in the mood and leaves shortly
    after.”
Out of frustration of being left hanging
after every sexual activity, Motun confronted her husband on the need
to satisfy her as well, but was shocked when her husband told her “I’m
    trying my best.”
Mosun, a mother of one, is one out of
millions of women who rarely or never reach orgasm, as evidenced by the
responses of women who spoke to Saturday PUNCH. It wasn’t an
issue many of them were willing to talk about, because it is considered a
taboo for women to discuss such a topic in public, but those who spoke
to our correspondent expressed their frustration and more importantly,
the fact that they are helpless.
Even though reaching climax or not has
no impact on women’s ability to conceive, it has a lot of impact on how
    much they enjoy sex.
It is therefore helpful to decipher why many women don’t reach orgasm.
Here is the reason. Men are able to
reach orgasm quickly because the nerves that trigger that intense
pleasure are located in the glans (the rounded part forming the head of
the penis), thus, its stimulation, usually through rubbing the vaginal
walls during intercourse, helps them to ejaculate in ‘record’ time.
But for women, those nerves that should
drive them to reach orgasm are not really in the vagina where they can
be stimulated during sex; they are located in the clitoris, which is
located at the anterior end of the vulva, or say towards the north
(upper) part of the vaginal opening.
Due to the location, the clitoris, which
is female’s most sensitive zone, is usually not directly stimulated by
the penis during intercourse. Thus, a large number of women are not able
to climax, even if the sexual act lasts for a longer time.
    According to previous studies, sexual
activity is usually between 33 seconds and 13 minutes, and
understandably, some men could take longer before they ejaculate, but
regardless of the length of time, a number of women may still not reach
    orgasm.
Therefore, it is for no hidden reason
that women who are unable to reach orgasm get to that destination when
their clitoris is stimulated by mere hand, simply because that is where
    the nerves are.
    According to a consultant
endocrinologist, Dr. Olamoyegun Michael, the primary reason women don’t
reach orgasm through penetrative sex is the inadequate stimulation of
the clitoris by the male organ during sex.
He said some women actually do reach
orgasm but that a significant percentage of women don’t reach that peak
and that it is as a product of so many factors. He said even among those
who claim to reach that level, some fake it to satisfy the man or not
    to puncture his ego.
He added, “Clitoris is located at the
upper part of the vagina wall. And because of that location, penetrative
sex may not drive it to orgasm in some women, unless you use some other
    means.
“However, some women can reach orgasm
through penetration, depending on the experience of both of them, how
roomy the woman is, how big the man is, the technique and some other
factors. So, it is not hidden that clitoris can affect their ability to
    reach orgasm or its frequency.
“That is why in the olden days, when
women were circumcised, which is the removal of the clitoris, the belief
was that those who were not circumcised could be promiscuous, and that
goes to show that the clitoris is very sensitive and is important in
    female sexual satisfaction.”
He explained further that the clitoris
can be likened to a man’s glans, noting that contrary to some beliefs,
clitoris does not grow with age. He said the clitoris only expands in
size when stimulated due to the increased blood flow.
He stated, “It is not that clitoris
grows with age and it doesn’t mean that the size of the clitoris in a
10-year-old is the same with that of a 35-year-old. No. It grows, but
that increase is related to stimulation.
“Just as it is in men, when the male
organ becomes more turgid during sexual intercourse due to the increased
blood flow, the same thing happens to the clitoris. When it is
stimulated, blood flow to that part increases and it expands the size,
length and its sensitivity. And the rate at which it will expand varies
from one person to another, just as some women release fluid in their
genitals after reaching orgasm while some don’t.”
    Overall, Olamoyegun maintained that when
it comes to penetrative sex, the penis may not reach the clitoris well
enough, because of where it (clitoris) is located, but that through
other means, like manual stimulation, women may find it easy to reach
    orgasm.
Notably, there are many routes to sexual
satisfaction (orgasm), including stimulation of nipples, the earlobes
and kissing. And once the woman’s erogenous zone is explored during that
activity, it takes them to that destination.
But given these options, some women
still do not reach orgasm. Olamoyegun explained that women who have
previously been sexually abused, or are being abused or maltreated by
their husbands may find it difficult to reach orgasm and those who are
frigid (inability of a female to respond to sexual stimulus) may find it
difficult to reach orgasm because of their past experience.
He noted that those who have worries,
challenges and those who have financial issues may also find it
difficult to climax because of their state of mind.
He added, “Some women are frigid and
such people are usually tensed. Thus, they don’t enjoy sex, let alone
have orgasm. That could be a product of previous sexual abuse or rape.
It is the same experience when the woman is being abused by the man. In
addition, there are other medical conditions that can cause it, like
diabetes, but there are drugs that can help that now.
“Then we have economic factor, which
also applies to men. When there is no money, sex might be the last thing
on his mind. So, for a woman too, if there are domestic or other issues
on her mind, sex might not appeal to her.”

  • How to turn your phone into home security camera

How to turn your phone into home security camera

In a country where insecurity is a major
problem, it is advisable to do all you can to safeguard your life and
property and not wait for the government to do the job for you.
Setting up a home security system does not need to cost you an arm and a leg.
In fact, according to cnet.com, you
don’t need to wait until you could afford to install a closed-circuit
television in your home to secure your life and property.
All you need are two smartphones — one
will be installed in your apartment while the other will be used to
monitor what’s happening from anywhere you are.

As long as your phones are working
properly and their rear cameras are functioning, you’re good to go. The
process is very easy to set up, but not totally free.
Get a security camera app running on your phone:
To begin, you will need to choose a
security camera app for your phone. Most apps offer up much of the same
features, such as local streaming, cloud streaming, recording and
storing footage locally or remotely, and motion detection and alerts.
Once you’re set up, you will be able to monitor your living space and
control your security camera from anywhere, straight from your phone.
Installing security camera app on iOS.
One of the best options for turning an
iOS device into a security camera is an application called Manything (a
mash-up of “Monitor anything”). With Manything, you can set up motion
alerts, choose between a video or stills-only mode, and even integrate
with IFTTT (an abbreviation of “If This Then That”) — a free web-based
service that allows users to create chains of simple conditional
statements, called “recipes,” which are triggered based on changes to
other web services such as Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest —
for virtually endless ways to configure your security camera.
Manything is a free download from the
App Store and comes with a completely free plan, allowing up to one
    camera and free recording.
    To get started:
    • Download Manything from the App Store to the two iOS
    phones.
    • From the phone to be installed in your home, open Settings
and disable Auto Lock under General.
    • Register or sign in to Manything using an email address or
    Facebook account.
    • Select Camera mode with the iOS device at home and Viewer
    mode for the mobile device.
    • Press the red button from the home camera device to start
    the live stream.
    • From the mobile phone, the live stream will appear in the list of streaming devices. Alternatively, you
can view the stream from a computer by signing in at manything.com.
Installing security camera app on Android
The process for iOS device is very
similar to that of an Android device, except that there is a different
camera app for the latter. Despite so many options to choose from, one
of the best security camera applications available is IP Webcam. There
is a lite version available completely free of charge, but you will need
to purchase the Pro version of the app for $3.99 (about N1,500) to
    unlock all features.
IP Webcam broadcasts both locally and
over the cloud using a service called Ivideon, so you can view your
    stream, live, from anywhere.
To setup your Android phone as a security camera:
    • Download IP Webcam from Google Play to the home device.
    • Launch IP Webcam and set your video preferences, effects, power
management settings, and motion or sound detecting, if desired. (To
broadcast the stream remotely, register or sign in to Ivideon, test
compatibility and enable the cloud stream).
    • To start the stream, select Start server at the very bottom of the app.
    • To view the stream on your mobile device: Find the provided IP
address and port number on the phone setup as a security camera. From
another device (computer, smartphone, or tablet), enter the IP address
in the address bar of the Web browser. Note that if you setup an Ivideon
cloud stream, from a computer, visit ivideon.com and sign in to view.

    BY  PUNCH NEWS PAPERS
    Some residents of riverside communities
in Lagos State are selling off their lands and houses in fear following
attacks by suspected Niger Delta militants in the areas, Saturday PUNCH has learnt.
In the first week following the last
attack by militants in Igbo-Olomu and Isawo areas of Ikorodu, residents
fled hurriedly to avoid being killed.
But during a visit to the communities,
our correspondents learnt that the residents had gone beyond fleeing the
troubled communities to selling their houses, lands and other
    properties in panic.
The panic sale was confirmed by the head of the Olomu family, the main landowner in Igbo Olomu.
A real estate agent, Ojo Alaso, told one
of our correspondents that he had been approached by at least three
people, whom he had helped to buy lands in the areas.

Alaso said, “I cannot blame them, all the things happening here are enough to scare anyone.
“Honestly, I know this problem will be
addressed one day, but people have become so scared of the attacks that
they are having a rethink about living here.
“One of the men who told me to help
resell his land already planned that by the end of this year, he might
start the construction works. But he called me early in the week to
inform me that he was no longer interested in the building plan.
“They are even willing to sell the lands below the market value.”
In Igbo-Olomu, a plot of land close to
the major road is sold for between N3m and N4m, while in Isawo, it goes
for up to N5.5m, one real estate agent, David Ashana, told Saturday PUNCH.
“But as you go inwards, the cost can be as low as N400, 000 and as high as N1.5m,” Ashana, said.
The agent explained that a woman who
bought a land in the area for N900, 000 about seven months ago had now
put it up for sale for N500, 000.
“If you have N400, 000 you can buy it from her, you only need to pay my commission,” he added.
    When our correspondents visited the
office of the Olomu family, a man who was later identified as the Olori
Ebi (family head), explained that he had been receiving reports about
people putting their houses up for sale.
He said, “People don’t feel safe because
of the insecurity caused by militants. This is a serious issue; the
policemen deployed here do not patrol the inner areas of the community.
“So, people may be raped and killed in
the interior parts of our community and the policemen will not do
anything. This is why people are selling their properties. The police
    presence here is not effective.”
He directed one of our correspondents to
a street where an agent announced on a signpost that a house was
available for sale in the community.
When one of correspondents called the
agent over the phone, he said he was out of town but gave a description
of the location of the three-bedroomed house previously occupied by the
owner until he fled the area about a month ago.
“The man who owns the house decided to sell it two weeks ago and N2.5m is the asking price,” he said.
The cost of land alone in that same location is between N1.2m and N1.5m.
An estate agent, Mr. Victor Oluyi, who
said his company had dealt with a number of clients in that part of
Ikorodu, Lagos, explained that normally, a finished three-bedroomed
house is worth over N4m in the area.
A community leader and rights activist
in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity to avoid being killed
by militants, told Saturday PUNCH that a man simply identified
as Aroso Alajo (a popular thrift collector) wanted to sell his
three-bedroomed house. The asking price for the house, according to him,
    is N2.5m.
He said another resident he identified as Pastor Ogunsanwo had also put his house up for sale.
The rights activist said, “My opinions
were published in the newspapers after the attacks in the community. The
militants said if I did not keep my mouth shut, I would die.
“We were there when the militants first
killed nine people in our area. Right now, no fewer than 40 residents
have been killed in the community. They even beheaded some of the
victims and took their heads away. So, people selling their lands and
houses are not overreacting at all.”
One of our correspondents, who visited
the Aroso Alajo’s house, noticed that no single person was in sight in
the whole area. It was learnt that none of the residents had returned to
    the area.
A commercial motorcyclist said it was too risky to visit the house put up for sale by Pastor Ogunsanwo earlier identified.
He said the area was too deserted but
took one of our correspondents to another house, a storey building with a
servants’ quarters with at least half a plot extra land. It was put up
for sale for N5m by the owner.
At Totowu, a community in Igando area of
Lagos, that had initially been attacked by militants few weeks ago,
residents are also disposing of their homes in fear.
    Findings by Saturday PUNCH
showed that a good number of landlords had already put their houses up
for sale fearing that the militants might strike again anytime.
“They promised to ‘clear’ our community,
so what is the use of staying here, when none of the security agencies
has visited this place since the last attack. Since the militants
promised to come back, I’m sure they will have a field day, so it’s best
to run away before they come,” a landlord told Saturday PUNCH.
Meanwhile, all the houses on offer for sale are at prices far below their market value.
“It is so bad that most of us just want
to sell before we are killed by those boys, because it doesn’t even seem
this place will be safe in the nearest future, the landlord, who
    identified himself as Jonathan, said.
Jonathan said he had already succeeded
in selling his property, a three-bedroomed flat for N2m. He said it was a
better option for him as he didn’t know what would become of the area
in years to come, more so that the militants could make good their
    threat.
Jonathan said, “If they succeed with that threat, we would be killed while the houses would be gone as well.”
Although a plot of land in the area costs around N1m, Jonathan explained that he spent N4m to complete the house.
Though there are no “To Let” boards on
the properties, our correspondents learnt from reliable sources within
the estate that many properties were already put up for sale and the
owners were ready to sell them at any reasonable price.
On one of the streets is an uncompleted
four-bedroomed flat. The construction has reached lintel level but the
owner has already sold it for a meagre N600, 000.
A resident confided in two of our
correspondents that the owner of the building sold it to raise money to
relocate. One of the landlords said, “I can confirm to you that some of
us are offering our properties for sale. Two people have sold their own
already. Somebody sold a bungalow for N2m. And another person sold his
four-bedroomed flat to avoid staying there and be killed by militants.
“There are many houses for sale now and
they are very cheap. All of them are on a dry land. If you want to buy a
house, whether completed or uncompleted, just come. You will get many
of them because many people want to sell.
“Since that incident, some people have
not come back because there is this fear that the militants could come
back. Some even told us to help them look for buyers. There is no police
presence since then. They have not deployed their men. In fact, we are
living under the mercy of God here.
In same vein, Iyewo Estate in Akesan,
Igando area of Lagos is another community that had come under attack by
the militants earlier in the month.
As a result of the attack, some
residents had fled the community, while some others, who seem to have
lost hope in the security of the place, have put up their houses for
    sale.
At least two landlords on Samuel
Olaoluwa Street are said to be looking for buyers for their houses.
Meanwhile, a source close to the landlords said they seemed ready to
accept any reasonable offer just to hurriedly flee the area.
Commenting on the development and its
impact on property values, an estate surveyor and valuer, Mr. Dipo
Fakorede, said, “Of course, it will have effect on property values,
because when everybody is leaving a particular location, it means the
area is not safe and when there are no demand for properties,
automatically the prices will crash. Definitely the prices, both rental
    and sale, will crash.
    “Meanwhile, some speculators will take
advantage of the situation. When people are abandoning their properties
and selling at ridiculous prices, people who have the cash would
definitely buy, although for future advantage. This is because by the
time the insecurity there is addressed, the values will keep rising and
people who have taken advantage of that would be laughing to the bank.
“On whether it is a good idea to buy
such a property, some people might think you are taking advantage of the
victims, but there is nothing wrong for any investor who wants to buy
such a property inasmuch as they are not going to the bank to borrow the
    money.”
However, the police in Lagos said the
panic in the areas previously attacked were unjustified, promising that
they are on top of the situation.
“People don’t have to move out of the
areas, the Lagos State Police Command is on top of the situation,”
spokesperson for the police in Lagos, Dolapo Badmos told Saturday PUNCH.
On Thursday, news filtered in that the
military in company with other security agencies were conducting
operations in Ikorodu, Lagos. The operation was also extended to Arepo
and Ibafo areas of Ogun State where the military bombed some militants’
    hideouts.
