Ondo Citizen Writes ODSG, Files FOI Request on Igbokoda-Okitipupa Road Project
A concerned citizen, Mr. Wándé T. Àjàyí, has formally submitted a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the Ondo State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, seeking detailed information on the recently flagged-off Igbokoda-Okitipupa road dualization project. The project, which was inaugurated by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to commemorate his first 100 days in office, has been described as a strategic economic initiative, especially in light of the proposed Ondo Deep Seaport. In a letter dated June 2, 2025, and addressed to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ajayi requested full disclosure on five key areas: the total cost of the project, its approved duration, the contractors involved, supporting feasibility and environmental studies, and the funding sources.“This request is made in the public interest and for the purpose of promoting transparency and accountability in public infrastructure development in Ondo State,” Mr. Ajayi stated in the letter, which was made available to the press. The citizen further urged the government to respond in accordance with Section 4 of the FOI Act, which mandates a public institution to respond within seven days of receipt. The dualization of the 27.5km Igbokoda-Okitipupa road is expected to ease traffic, boost trade and serve as a critical link to the state’s coastal corridor. However, public curiosity continues to grow around the cost and timeline of the ambitious project. The FOI Act, signed into law in 2011, empowers Nigerian citizens to request information from any public institution, thereby enhancing transparency and participatory governance. -

Akoko APC Leader, Demola Ijabiyi, Rejects Vote of Confidence In Governor Aiyedatiwa
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Hon. Demola Ijabiyi, has publicly dissociated himself from a recent vote of confidence passed on Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa by leaders of the Akoko axis of the party. In a strongly worded press release issued on Sunday, Ijabiyi, a respected elder and party leader from Afin in Akoko North West Local Government Area, said although he was invited and consulted ahead of the meeting held on Saturday, May 31, he chose not to attend due to personal reservations.“I was not only invited to the meeting, I was privy to the discussions and consultations that led to it. The Convener, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, specifically discussed the meeting with me and even pleaded that I attend,” he revealed. While Ijabiyi affirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he praised for his bold reforms and leadership vision, he declined to extend the same endorsement to Governor Aiyedatiwa. According to him, the governor has not demonstrated enough performance or direction to merit such public backing.“Both of us are members of the same party. That should normally compel my support for him. But as a leader and elder of the party, he is yet to earn my vote based on his performance,” he stated. The veteran politician acknowledged receiving personal patronage from the governor in the past but emphasized that such private gestures cannot substitute for tangible public service delivery. He criticized the governor’s approach to governance, citing a lack of innovation, transparency, and visible legacy projects in the seventeen months he has held office.“I do not know his programmes for the state. I do not know where he is leading us. I have no information on the state’s monthly allocations and internally generated revenues,” he said. “There are no single legacy or monumental projects.”Ijabiyi also condemned what he described as misplaced priorities by the Aiyedatiwa-led administration, citing the reported N9 billion allocated to construct luxurious residences for cabinet members and another N3.7 billion on a park project.“These types of priorities are puzzling,” he lamented.Drawing from personal and communal experience, Ijabiyi painted a grim picture of infrastructural decay and government neglect in his constituency. He noted that roads linking Afin, Ese, Irun, and Ogbagi are virtually impassable, with Ese completely cut off. He decried the poor state of education in the area, where local associations now pay teachers to fill critical gaps.“Schools in my hometown of Afin are in a sorry state. The Afin Development Association has to recruit and be paying some teachers to help out,” he disclosed.Beyond Akoko, Ijabiyi mentioned the dilapidated conditions of roads leading to his residences in Akure and the long-standing failure to provide piped water from major sources like Owena and Awara dams.“I remain the provider of my own water,” he said, questioning the status of long-promised water projects. The elder statesman concluded by asserting that the discontent among the people is growing, and as a party leader often confronted by constituents, he finds it difficult to defend the governor’s performance.“The grumbling in town is deafening,” he noted. “It is against this background that I cannot be part of the vote of confidence passed on him. He must change if he must have my confidence.”Ijabiyi’s statement is the first open disavowal by a senior APC figure in the Akoko region since Aiyedatiwa’s emergence as governor, signaling deepening divisions within the party ahead of future political battles. -

Ondo PDP Alleges ₦11.7 Billion Contract Scandal Under Aiyedatiwa
The political atmosphere in Ondo State took a dramatic turn on Saturday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ondo State Chapter, accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of violating the 1999 Constitution and abusing his office through what it described as executive lawlessness and financial recklessness. The party’s statement, signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, marked the Governor’s 100th day in office with a strong condemnation of his governance style.
Central to the PDP’s accusations is the Governor’s refusal to constitute a cabinet more than 90 days after being sworn in. The party described this as a clear violation of Section 192(6) of the Constitution, which requires state governors to appoint commissioners within 60 days. According to the statement, the Governor’s inaction is not only unconstitutional but a deliberate ploy to monopolize decision-making and shut out broader representation.
The PDP further alleged that this vacuum in governance has allowed the Governor to award contracts arbitrarily without due consultation or debate. One such contract, the construction of 32 four-bedroom presidential buildings allegedly meant for cabinet members, was described as “vexatious and inflated”. According to the PDP, each unit is billed at a staggering N281 million, summing up to N8.1 billion. The party also criticized the so-called upgrading and vertical enhancement of the Chief Reuben Fasoranti Park, pegged at N3.6 billion, calling it a reckless misapplication of funds and a misuse of the revered elder statesman’s name.
In addition, the party accused the Governor of operating the state’s finances in secrecy. It said the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and federal allocations are known only to the Governor and his Commissioner for Finance, with no transparency or public accountability. The PDP declared that it would no longer tolerate what it termed “executive rascality”, and gave the Governor a 14-day ultimatum to constitute his cabinet and revoke the contentious contracts or face legal action.
The Ondo State Government has yet to respond to these allegations. However, the statement has already stirred political tension across the state, with analysts predicting intensified opposition pressure in the coming weeks.

PDP NEC Sets Date for National Convention, Blasts Tinubu Administration
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held its 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today, issuing a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and outlining plans for the party’s future.
In a communique released after the meeting, the NEC expressed deep concern over what it described as the “sorry and melancholic state of affairs” in Nigeria under the All Progressives Congress (APC) government. The party condemned the worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and alleged corruption, attributing these issues to the policies and actions of the Tinubu-led administration.
The NEC also accused the APC of attempting to transform Nigeria into a one-party state by stifling opposition and democratic institutions. “It is clear that this plot is borne out of APC’s mortal fear of inevitable defeat in 2027 due to its dismal failure in government,” the communique stated.
On internal matters, the NEC ratified the composition of the Committee on the National Convention and approved the conduct of the National Convention from August 28 to 30, 2025. The Zoning Committee, chaired by Governor Douye Diri, and the National Convention Committee, led by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, were also approved.

The meeting concluded with a reassurance to Nigerians that the PDP remains strong, resilient, and united in its commitment to lead the nation out of its current challenges.

Ondo Police to Ojajuni: ‘You Were Not Kidnapped, Stop Misleading the Public’
The Ondo State Police Command has reacted strongly to claims made by Mr. Eniola Ojajuni, a youth leader of the Afenifere group, who alleged that four traditional rulers in Akoko were in connivance with kidnappers, and accused the police of failing to debrief him after his purported release from captivity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said Mr. Ojajuni’s narrative is riddled with inconsistencies and does not align with known patterns of kidnapping activities in the state.
“The Command takes all allegations seriously, but it is important to set the record straight,” the statement read. “Contrary to Mr. Ojajuni’s assertions, he was neither kidnapped nor released by any known abductors within Ondo State.”
According to the police, investigations into the case were hampered by conflicting statements from Mr. Ojajuni and members of his family, particularly his wife and brothers, whose accounts contradicted his version of events. The police said they worked alongside other commands to ensure his safe return despite the lack of clarity in the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
The statement also revealed that Mr. Ojajuni has repeatedly failed to honor invitations from the Command for a formal debrief, an exercise the police say could have aided further investigation and clarified lingering doubts about the case.
Significantly, the police raised doubts about a video released during Mr. Ojajuni’s alleged abduction, stating that its contents do not resemble the behavior of any known kidnapping group in Ondo State. “Intelligence gathered from previous cases shows that many of these criminals do not own smartphones or make videos of their victims,” the PPRO added.
The Command expressed concern over what it described as a growing trend of individuals bypassing official channels and resorting to social media to make sweeping allegations. It stressed that criminal investigations cannot be conducted online and urged the public to rely on proper channels for redress.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding justice without fear or favor. Anyone found culpable, regardless of status, will face the full weight of the law,” the statement read.
The police also appealed to members of the public with credible information on criminal activities to come forward and support ongoing security efforts in the state.
Residents were urged to continue their lawful activities without fear, as the Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and safety in Ondo State.

2027 Election: APC Governor Intensifies Move To Leave Party
In a calculated display of defiance and ambition, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state, may dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of 2027 general electionsThe governor had boycotted the party’s high-profile endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election. The endorsement event, hosted at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa by the APC’s National Working Committee, was aimed at consolidating party unity ahead of the next election cycle. However, Governor Alia’s conspicuous absence sent shockwaves through party leadership and reinforced concerns over his growing dissent and rebellion within party ranks.Sources familiar with the matter revealed that in the days leading up to the endorsement, Governor Alia aggressively pushed for a dual endorsement—one that would recognize his reelection bid despite his ongoing disputes with the state’s APC leadership. When the party hierarchy rejected his demands, Alia reportedly stormed out of negotiations, boycotted the event, and accelerated talks with alternative political platforms.Since assuming office, he has frequently clashed with key APC stakeholders in Benue, most notably Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation and a dominant force in state politics.Tensions reached a peak when Governor Alia attempted to unilaterally remove Mr. Austin Agada, the APC State Chairman known for his loyalty to Akume. The move was widely criticized within the party as unlawful and autocratic, and a Federal High Court in Makurdi, presided over by Justice Kume, overturned Alia’s action on November 28, 2024. The ruling upheld Agada’s position, delivering a significant blow to Alia’s efforts to take full control of the party machinery in Benue.Undeterred, the governor entrenched a factional structure within the state, operating with a parallel executive and systematically sidelining dissenters.Political analysts now believe Alia’s overtures to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) represent a calculated exit strategy from the APC. Reports indicate that negotiations—led by former Governor Gabriel Suswam and top ADC operatives—are at an advanced stage.Further complicating the political landscape is Alia’s covert alliance with Suswam, a prominent chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).Sources confirm that Alia discreetly financed Suswam’s failed bid for PDP National Chairman, a move that stunned even close aides and underscored Alia’s willingness to forge cross-party alliances for strategic gain.As the 2027 election approaches, Alia’s political gamble could either propel him to a new center of power or leave him politically stranded. What remains clear is that Governor Alia has charted a path not as a loyal party man, but as a political maverick determined to redefine his relevance—regardless of the cost.
