Constituency Project Funds: Ekimogun Roundtable Hails Engr. Asalu for Patriotism, Berates Hon. Makinde Over Legal Action
The Ekimogun Roundtable Forum has commended a former House of Representatives aspirant in Osun State, Engr. David Ayodele Asalu, for his patriotic disclosure regarding Constituency Project Funds allocated to National Assembly members under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a video currently making the rounds, Engr. Asalu revealed that every Honourable member of the National Assembly is now entitled to no less than one billion Naira in constituency project funding since the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Tinubu administration.
“Quote me anywhere, since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his wisdom, removed the subsidy, both Governors and National Assembly Members have been receiving increased allocations. No Honourable Member gets less than one billion Naira for constituency projects,” he stated.
The Roundtable lauded this bold revelation, describing it as consistent with its long-standing advocacy for transparency and accountability in governance, especially in tracking and monitoring constituency projects.
According to the Forum, Engr. Asalu’s statement was not made in the spirit of vendetta but rather as a sincere call for the judicious use of public funds meant for the development of constituencies.
To buttress Engr. Asalu’s position, the Ekimogun Roundtable stated that the Ondo East/West Federal Constituency has been receiving billions in constituency allocations since 2019 from the National Assembly, much of which remains largely unaccounted for. The group emphasised that constituents must develop the habit of asking questions from their representatives rather than applauding them whenever they throw peanuts at them.
The group said it is out of sheer irresponsibility for a public representative to subject constituents to the rigours of a judicial process over a simple question concerning legislative performance and accountability, as is currently the case between the group and Hon. Abiola Makinde regarding constituency funds, allocations and plenary attendance.
The Ekimogun Roundtable reaffirmed its commitment to sensitising citizens, especially the people of Ondo East-West Federal Constituency, and promoting accountability among elected representatives.

Aiyedatiwa Under Fire for Ignoring Ijoka Road Project
The Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ondo State has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the recent flag-off of a 10 kilometre road project from Oke Aro Junction to Idanre, describing the move as self-serving and suspicious. In a statement released by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Leye Igbabo, the PDP alleged that the Governor abandoned the Ijoka Road project which links Akure to Idanre because it no longer serves his personal financial interest. The party claimed that the new project was designed to create room for fresh kickbacks under the guise of people-oriented governance.According to the statement, the ongoing hardship experienced daily by commuters and residents along the Ijoka axis has been ignored for too long. The PDP questioned why the government would initiate a new road project with a similar function instead of completing the Ijoka project which has already consumed public funds. The opposition party expressed worry that another round of billions of naira from taxpayers is about to be misapplied on a fresh construction while numerous road projects initiated by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN remain incomplete. The statement read in part“If there is a genuine need for road development in the Idanre axis perhaps for political relevance one would have expected the Governor to focus on the Idanre to Ofosu road which holds greater economic value by connecting to the Benin Ore Lagos expressway”The PDP further advised Governor Aiyedatiwa to place public interest above personal ambition and ensure that the welfare and security of the people occupy the front burner of his administration. The party also demanded that all abandoned or ongoing road projects initiated by the Akeredolu administration be completed before any new construction is considered. As of the time of filing this report there has been no official response from the Governor’s office regarding the allegations raised by the PDP. -

Dr Adekunle Akindele Deserves Applause Not Attacks
by Wándé T. AjayiAs a Nigerian who may not be an indigene of Osun State but is deeply committed to the ideals of good governance and national development, I feel compelled to comment on the recent criticisms directed at Dr Adekunle Akindele, the Special Adviser on Public Health to Governor Ademola Adeleke. These criticisms, largely driven by narrow ethnic sentiments and not rooted in performance or objective facts, are both unfortunate and counterproductive. Dr Akindele’s role in the transformation of Osun State’s healthcare sector is not only commendable but worthy of national recognition.Under his leadership, Osun State has achieved remarkable progress. The state was recently awarded five hundred thousand dollars for being the best-performing Southwest state in the Universal Health Coverage category. This is no small feat. It reflects careful planning, tireless execution, and a clear focus on the health and welfare of the people.Dr Akindele has overseen the Imole Free Medical Outreach which has provided free surgeries, consultations, and medications to thousands of residents across the state. He has also spearheaded the renovation of numerous primary healthcare centres ensuring they are properly equipped with electricity, clean water, medical supplies, and staff. These are not the actions of a passive appointee. They are the results of a public servant who understands the importance of healthcare and who is dedicated to meaningful impact.Yet rather than applaud his results, some have reduced the conversation to where he is from or where he resides. This kind of thinking belongs in the past. It undermines unity, progress, and meritocracy. In a country like ours where development should be our shared goal, we must rise above such petty and regressive sentiments.Competence knows no tribe. Dedication is not defined by one’s postcode. What should matter most to the people of Osun and to Nigerians at large is whether a public official delivers on their mandate. By all indications, Dr Akindele has not only delivered, he has exceeded expectations.Let us stop weaponising origin and focus instead on outcomes. Let us support those who are building instead of tearing them down for political convenience. Dr Akindele deserves our collective encouragement to continue his good work.I urge all well-meaning citizens to stand for what is right. Let us build a country and states where capacity is celebrated and tribalism is rejected. Osun is on a path of progress and it is leaders like Dr Akindele who are helping to drive that change. -

NAOSS-OAU Explores the Sunshine Coast: A Bold and Memorable Trip to Araromi Seaside
In a vibrant celebration of culture, connection, and discovery, the National Association of Ondo State Students, Obafemi Awolowo University (NAOSS-OAU), under the visionary leadership of Hon. Boluwatife OLATUNJI Paul (BOP), embarked on a remarkable excursion to Araromi Seaside in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.Organized through the Office of the Director of Socials, ably coordinated by Afolabi Enoch (popularly known as Fola Candy), the two-day trip was held from May 9–10, 2025, after a slight rescheduling from its initial May 2 date due to logistics adjustments. This year’s edition of the annual state tour marked a bold departure from the norm. Rather than the familiar and frequently explored Idanre Hills, the BOP-led administration chose to tread a new path — journeying to the hidden coastal gem of Araromi Seaside. This decision captured the adventurous spirit of the administration and reflected a commitment to showcasing the depth of Ondo State’s diverse landscape. The six-hour journey from Ile-Ife took students across four local government areas — Ondo West, Odigbo, Ondo South, and Ilaje — and offered a sweeping view of the state’s scenic richness. For many participants, especially those visiting Ondo State for the first time, it was a journey of rediscovery and wonder.Upon arrival, NAOSSites were welcomed by the breathtaking beauty of Araromi Seaside — a wide stretch of pristine coastline, kissed by the Atlantic breeze, and wrapped in nature’s calm. The serene lifestyle of the Ilaje riverine area was both captivating and humbling. Students were amazed by the community’s creativity in adapting to sea life, from expert navigation of waterways to innovative fishing practices and their harmonious relationship with the ocean. It was an eye-opening experience that broadened perspectives and deepened respect for the resilience and ingenuity of the Ilaje people.Highlights of the trip included:* A lively beach party that celebrated culture and camaraderie* Exquisite traditional meals promoting Ondo’s rich heritage* A thrilling boat ride and full beach exploration* An inspiring audience with His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeoloye Olawole, the Alara of Araromi Kingdom, who warmly received the students and shared insights into the traditions and pride of his peopleThe trip was more than a getaway — it was a cultural pilgrimage that reignited the bond between students and their roots, while introducing many to parts of Ondo they had only heard about.Once again, the NAOSS-OAU administration has proven its dedication to meaningful engagement, breaking boundaries, and creating unforgettable experiences. The journey to Araromi Seaside will long be remembered as a defining moment in the association’s history — a bold, beautiful, and enriching chapter in the Sunshine State’s story. -

Plenary Attendance: Court Grants Ekimogun Roundtable Leave to Serve National Assembly, Hon. Abiola Makinde
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted leave to the Registered Trustees of the Ekimogun Roundtable to apply for an order of Mandamus against the National Assembly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Honourable Abiola Makinde, the member representing Ondo East/West Federal Constituency.
The decision, delivered by Hon. Justice B.F.M. Nyako on March 13, 2025, followed an ex-parte motion filed on March 12, 2025, by the applicant. The motion seeks to compel the National Assembly to fulfill its statutory duty by disclosing information regarding the plenary attendance of Hon. Abiola Makinde, who the group alleged has abandoned his legislative responsibilities, leaving the constituency without adequate representation for an extended period.
Specifically, the group is requesting details of Hon. Makinde’s attendance at plenary sessions as well as records of constituency and intervention funds allocated to Ondo East/West Federal Constituency during the period under review. According to the group, these requests are grounded in Section 68(f) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which provides that a lawmaker who fails to attend the required number of plenary days in a legislative year may be compelled to vacate their seat.
Ekimogun Roundtable further claims to be tracking over N4 billion allocated to the constituency through the National Assembly in the last four years, funds they allege remain largely unaccounted for due to misrepresentation.
The motion, supported by an affidavit sworn to by Ogah Blessing Nneku-Ojo, a legal practitioner, emphasized that the respondents had failed to respond to legitimate demands for information, thereby prompting legal action. Represented by lead counsel Timilehin Albert, Esq., who led a team of over twenty other lawyers in the suit, the applicant argued that the requested disclosures were in the public interest and necessary for transparency and accountability in governance.
The court granted the applicant leave to proceed with the order of Mandamus, directed that the respondents be put on notice, and adjourned the matter to May 19, 2025, for mention.
The National Assembly and Hon. Abiola Makinde have since been formally served.

Ondo PDP Slams Gov Aiyedatiwa Over Alleged Displacement of Farmers in Oluwa Forest Reserve
The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of subjecting farmers in the Oluwa Forest Reserve (OA3A), located in Odigbo Local Government Area, to what it described as inhuman treatment and calculated economic disenfranchisement.
In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday and signed by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Leye Igbabo, the opposition party alleged that the state government, after collecting various levies and dues from farmers, had moved to displace them from the farmlands earlier allocated to them.
The PDP said the farmers, who have invested heavily in cocoa plantations over the years, are now facing eviction to make way for private investors allegedly introduced by the government to cultivate palm oil on the same land.
“This action is not only wicked but also, essentially fraudulent in nature,” the statement read. “After paying annual rents, security dues, and identity card levies, the same government is now destroying their cocoa plantations to pave the way for another crop of similar economic value.”
The party questioned the rationale behind replacing already productive cocoa farms with palm oil plantations, saying both crops are of comparative commercial worth and should not be substituted at the expense of poor farmers who have toiled for years.
Describing the move as “self-serving,” the PDP argued that Ondo State has vast arable lands suitable for agricultural expansion without the need to uproot existing plantations and frustrate livelihoods.
“There is no justification for targeting the lands of these hardworking citizens when the state is abundantly blessed with unused fertile land,” the statement continued.
The opposition party warned that the government’s actions could lead to dire socio-economic consequences including hunger, increased crime, violence, and untimely deaths. It urged Governor Aiyedatiwa to reconsider the decision and adopt a more humane approach to governance.
“The Constitution mandates the governor to provide for the welfare of citizens, not destroy their sources of livelihood,” the party said, calling on the government to allow the affected farmers to “breathe and enjoy the fruits of their many years of labour.
