Tinubu Government Discontinues Treason Charge Against Sowore

The Nigerian government has discontinued its case against #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore over alleged treason.

A Notice of Discontinuance stamped by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday and signed by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) on Wednesday, said the complainant (Federal Government of Nigeria) would discontinue the case.

on Wednesday, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court, Abuja, again threatened to strike out the treason charge filed against the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, if the Nigerian government was not ready to go on with the case five years after.

The judge handed down the warning on Wednesday at the resumed hearing of the case.

The case which was slated for trial could not go on as the 1st defendant could not take his plea following the announcement of the new prosecution lawyer, A.Y Tahir, who said that she would be taking over the case on the ground that the lawyer handling the case initially had been transferred out of the Ministry.

Breaking News: More troubles for Nigerians as Tinubu’s govt announces plan to stop subsidizing electricity

In a significant development, the Bola Tinubu-led federal government has announced its intention to cease subsidizing electricity, as disclosed by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, February 14. Adelabu emphasized that Nigeria cannot sustainably continue subsidizing electricity and must transition towards a cost-effective tariff model to ensure long-term viability.

Highlighting the financial challenges, Adelabu revealed that Nigeria currently carries a significant debt burden, owing 1.3 trillion naira to generating companies (GenCos) and 1.3 billion dollars to gas companies. Despite budgeting 450 billion naira for subsidy this year, the ministry estimates a requirement of over 2 trillion naira to adequately subsidize electricity.
In response to the pressing energy needs, Adelabu announced that state governments would be permitted to independently generate power to supply their respective states. Additionally, addressing recurring grid collapses, he cited factors such as gas shortages, aging infrastructure, low evacuation capacity, and damage to power stations in the North-East region.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria’s stalled projects, totaling over 100, were attributed to fluctuations in forex rates, prompting the ministry to withhold awarding new contracts until ongoing projects are completed. Moreover, with a focus on rural electrification, the 2024 budget allocates over 50 billion naira for constructing mini-grids in remote areas. Adelabu also issued a stern warning to electricity distribution companies, stating that noncompliance would result in license revocation, and enlisted the support of the National Security Adviser to safeguard power infrastructure.

  • Nationwide Hunger: “Northerners will soon revolt; we can’t pacify them again” – Sultan tells President Tinubu

Nationwide Hunger: “Northerners will soon revolt; we can’t pacify them again” – Sultan tells President Tinubu

Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar-led Northern Traditional Council, has warned that rising poverty, hunger and insecurity in the country will force people to revolt against President Bola Tinubu’s government very soon.

“It is getting to a level that traditional leaders could no longer pacify the people from revolting against government and political leaders that are supposed to find solutions to their lingering socio-economic plight,” Mr Sa’ad said.

“We have reached that level, people are very agitated, people are hungry, they are angry, but they still believe there are people who can talk to them, they believe in some of their Governors, some other traditional rulers and some of their religious leaders, fortunately some of us double as traditional and religious leaders.”

Mr Sa’ad, who doubles as both traditional and religious leader, gave this warning at the 6th executive Northern Traditional Council committee meeting held at Arewa House, Kaduna, on Wednesday.

The cleric added that “Let’s not take it for granted; people are quiet, they are quiet for a reason, because people have been talking to them; we have been talking to them, we have been trying to tell them things will be be okay and they keep on believing. I pray to Almighty Allah that they will not one day wake up and say we no longer believe in you. Because that would be the biggest problem, because we can’t quieten these people as traditional, spiritual leaders and diplomats forever.”

Lamenting rising poverty and insecurity, Mr Sa’ad said “To make matters worse, we are faced with rising level of poverty of most of our people; lack of normal sources of livelihood by the common man to have even a good meal a day.”

He added that “But, I believe talking about insecurity and the rising level of poverty are two issues that we cannot fold our arms and think everything is okay. I have said it so many times and at so many fora that, things are not okay in Nigeria and of course, things are not okay in the North.”

Late singer, Donna Summers’ Estate accuses Kanye West of ‘copyright infringement,’ claims he used edited sample of ‘I Feel Love’ on Vultures

Late American singer, Donna Summer’s estate has accused Kanye West of sampling her music without permission.

    The
controversial rapper is said to have used an unauthorised interpolation
of the late singer’s 1977 hit ‘I Feel Love’ on ‘Good (Don’t Die)’,
which features on his and Ty Dolla $ign’s newly-released joint album
    ‘Vultures 1’.

    The
song features the lyrics “Oh, I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m alive, I’m
alive” seemingly set to the melody of the classic track from the Queen
of Disco, who died in 2012 aged 63.

    A
statement shared to the Instagram Story for Donna’s account said:

was denied… he changed the words, had someone re-sing it or used AI but
    it’s I Feel Love… copyright infringement!!!”

Summer died in 2012 from lung cancer,
at her home in Naples, Florida. She sold over 100 million records
worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.
    She won five Grammy Awards.

    The
statement comes after Kanye was blasted by Ozzy Osbourne, who accused
him of sampling Black Sabbath’s War Pigs’ on the album without
    permission.

    Ozzy
fumed on X: “.@kanyewest ASKED PERMISSION TO SAMPLE A SECTION OF A 1983
LIVE PERFORMANCE OF “WAR PIG” FROM THE US FESTIVAL WITHOUT VOCALS WAS
REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD
HEARTACHE TO MANY. HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM
LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN!
    (sic).”

    His
wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne, later added on her own account: “The
Osbourne family have never wanted any association with Kanye West. He
is an anti-Semitic fool who spews his rhetoric out into the world,
Kanye, you [messed] with the wrong dude this time. Sincerely, Sharon

  • Use your money to pull Nigerians out of poverty and unemployment – APC group tells Obi and Atiku

Use your money to pull Nigerians out of poverty and unemployment – APC group tells Obi and Atiku

    The
Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups has
asked opposition leaders, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to use their
wealth to pull Nigerians out of poverty and unemployment.

    The
group’s Director-General, Prof. Mohammed Kailani who spoke at a news
conference in Abuja on Saturday, February 10, stated that President Bola
Tinubu means well for the country and should be supported by all
Nigerians to achieve his desired goals.

    Kailani said;

    “The
President means well and is well equipped with the attribute of
fighting the symmetric and asymmetric warfare of the masses of this
country. President Bola Tinubu has the vision, strategic thinking and a
clear, coherent plan built on evidence and realism to bring about a
substantial leap in the quality of life of all Nigerians.

    “I
advise both opposition leaders to henceforth to first strategise on how
to solve the problems in their political parties first. They should do
this by using strategies that are grounded in realism, evidence and
comprehensive plannings in addressing the complex challenges they have
before coming out to talk or advice an administration that is doing
    well.

“The opposition leaders pretend when making comments that
they wish the country well, especially when Mr Peter Obi of the Labour
Party has about one trillion dollars kept in his personal bank, Fidelity
Bank. And, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, having about the same amount stashed
around the world, monies they could have invested in the country to help
the masses of the country get employments and pull out of poverty.

“Today after their defeats they have now resorted to wishful thinking politics to clear the hang over of their defeats.”
