The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, has warned that the association may relocate the activities of its National Headquarters to the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) if urgent measures are not taken to address the growing insecurity affecting students in and around the institution.

Akinteye disclosed this after a lengthy telephone conversation with the Vice-Chancellor of the university following the students’ protest over the worsening security situation on campus.

According to the NANS President, he reminded the Vice-Chancellor that it is the primary responsibility of the university management to provide a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning, stressing that the association would not fold its arms while students continue to face security threats.

He stated that NANS was prepared to escalate its intervention by relocating the activities of its National Headquarters to the university if the management failed to take concrete steps to improve the security situation.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor assured the NANS leadership that the university management was already taking necessary steps to strengthen security within and around the campus. He also expressed confidence that students would soon begin to witness significant improvements in the institution’s security architecture.

Akinteye commended the students of FUTMINNA for conducting a peaceful protest in defence of their safety and welfare. He also praised the NANS Joint Campus Council in Niger State and the association’s North Central Zonal Coordinator for providing leadership and standing with the students throughout the demonstration.

The NANS President assured students that the national leadership of the association would continue to monitor the situation and engage the university management until lasting measures are implemented to safeguard lives and property.

He reaffirmed that the welfare, safety, and academic success of Nigerian students remain the association’s foremost priority.
