Ondo Police Arraign 15 Motorists Over Covered, Unregistered Number Plates

The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned 15 motorists for operating vehicles with either covered or no registration number plates as it intensifies the enforcement of the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at strengthening security and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.

The Command said the enforcement exercise, which commenced across the state on June 22, forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the use of unregistered vehicles often exploited by criminal elements to evade identification and detection.

According to the Police, the operation led to the interception of 15 vehicles found to be operating without registration numbers or with covered number plates. The vehicles were subsequently handed over to the State Traffic Department, while prosecution of the offenders has commenced before a competent court.

The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, said the enforcement exercise would be sustained, stressing that it was not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to strengthen the state’s security architecture and improve the capacity of law enforcement agencies to identify vehicles and their owners during criminal investigations.

He noted that vehicles without registration plates or with concealed number plates pose significant security risks and are frequently used to facilitate criminal activities, making strict enforcement imperative.

The police commissioner urged vehicle owners and other road users to ensure their vehicles are duly registered and fitted with valid number plates at all times. He also advised members of the public to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with security agencies in the discharge of their lawful duties.

Ohagwu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that the enforcement operation would continue as part of broader efforts to maintain law and order and enhance public confidence in policing across Ondo State.
