Comfort Omoge, Asiko And The Classics Of Ikale Music: A Prenote By Kunle Wizeman Ajayi

On a call with Mubo as the kids journey back from Uluuton, that sanguineous hard lipping voicing of Mama Comfort Omoge singing “mo dele Alaro o ni Oke Egba…” is being blasted by the driver; sweet memories of the many stages I saw her singing and the few times I met her while she came seeing her grandkids at Iye Ope’s, serenades through.
Some of us have done badly writing about Ikale and the entire Ondo South. Especially given how its rich culture and discipline has taken us to the hills of global intellectual pugilism. I salute brains like Akingbulu Olakunle who wrote an amazing piece on Iwo Festival. We will need him to turn those beautiful sentences into a book someday.
Ikale Culture is embedded in its music. Unlike Ilaje music which is defined by the Zion Church tradition majorly, Ikale music is distinct as it is purely cultural and social which has helped to produce more globally respected icons. While Ilaje music has a higher and more vocal sound base, it’s rootedness in the religious themes bellies its sociopath.
Ikale music also explore unisexual and anti-partriachal depth which is quite rooted in its categorization of masquerades into gender sensitivity where you find Janduku; Oya; Okomale; Iyemale; Obodo; Ogonikoko; and of course Okooro. This gender sensitivity is also deep in Ikale music with the characteristics of Biripo and Asiko.
Asiko has become the most researched and known musical genre in Ikale all because of the great exploits of Comfort Omoge!
But we have not written well about her. We will need to do deeper compassing into the ingredients she cooked together to produce great classics that stole the heart of the world. She became the first female musician to do a global musical tour and is placed on the same pedestal with greats like Fela, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and the likes.
What Comfort Omoge has done to Ikale Music through Asiko, is as great as what Crosdale Juba has done with Ikale Highlife. It’s a great feeling that these heroes continue to get playing times in the global musical spaces. What is needed is more pens to engrave them into history and global musical archives.
And with this prenote, we will have to bring to more life the works of our legends and how much they have helped to shape our cultures, social and even political life!

OPINION: Accountability Or Politics? Nigerians Deserve Facts, Not Distractions By Victor Rawa

The recent attempts to drag Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, one of the best-performing Ministers in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet, into needless controversy should concern every patriotic Nigerian. This is not about accountability, because true accountability must be holistic, transparent, and fair, it is about politics, pure and simple. Those fueling these allegations are not speaking for the masses; they are hiding behind the veil of opposition and playing a dangerous game of attacking the President through his trusted appointees.
Let us put the facts side by side. Ondo State has a 2025 budget of ₦655 billion, with over ₦406 billion earmarked for capital projects covering infrastructure, agriculture, health, and education. With such vast allocations, citizens should be seeing visible results on the ground, better schools, functional hospitals, accessible roads, and a boost in youth employment. Yet, what do we see? Instead of showcasing achievements backed by such resources, traducers have chosen to channel all their energy into targeting Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, a Minister who is delivering results nationally, all in an attempt to weaken the President’s standing.
Contrast this with Imo State, a non–oil-producing state. With far fewer resources, Governor Hope Uzodimma has not only stabilized state finances but also recently approved a minimum wage of ₦104,000 for Imo workers, far above the ₦70,000 national benchmark. At the same time, Imo’s Internally Generated Revenue has surged from under ₦400 million to over ₦3 billion monthly, while federal allocations have grown from ₦7.5 billion to over ₦13 billion. These reforms have been matched with visible development: improved public sector wages, pensions, and infrastructure. Simply put, Imo is doing more with less. Shouldn’t this comparison make the people of Ondo State demand better from those who control their allocations, instead of being distracted by politically motivated attacks on a federal Minister?
It is obvious that the real target is not Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo but President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself. By attacking one of his most capable lieutenants, traducers are seeking to paint the administration in a bad light, undermine its reforms, and sow discontent among the people. Sadly, even support groups working for the President in Ondo State are now being hounded by interests linked to the state government. This begs serious questions: Why should loyal Tinubu support structures be treated as enemies? What exactly is the endgame? Is it to frustrate the President’s reelection bid in 2027? Or worse still, are some forces within APC secretly romancing the opposition, whether PDP, Labour Party or even ADC, while pretending to be with the party? If so, that is not only disloyalty, it is sabotage in broad daylight.
Ondo State must not be deceived. Accountability is welcome, but it must be consistent. It cannot be that we close our eyes to how state allocations are managed, yet amplify unsubstantiated claims against a Minister whose performance is strengthening the government’s image.
The Ondo people deserve straight answers: Why is public service delivery still lagging in Ondo despite massive capital budgets? Why are wages not keeping pace with rising allocations, while Imo, with less, is leading the way? Why are key indicators like health, education, and infrastructure not improving at the expected rate in a state that is better resourced than many of its peers? These are the real accountability questions.
We stand firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reject any attempt to turn genuine governance into a political chess game. Ministers who are delivering on their mandate, like Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, should be shielded from baseless blackmail. The Presidency must not be weakened through indirect attacks disguised as public concern. If accountability is the goal, then let it be demanded across the board, not as a tool of political survival, but as a duty to the Nigerian people.
Nigeria cannot afford distractions. What we need now is progress, fairness, and truth. And the truth is simple: traducers may try to divert attention, but the people know where accountability must truly begin.

NANS Commends Aiyedatiwa For Approving ₦350m Bursary For Ondo Students

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council, Ondo State Axis, has applauded Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for approving the release of ₦350 million for the payment of students’ bursary in the state.
In a press statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Comrade Adekanye Mayomi Adeboye (INEC), the General Secretary, Comrade Oladele Oluwafemi Emmanuel (Fresh Diamond), and the Public Relations Officer, Comrade Johnpaul O. Alabi (Makins), the association described the approval as a “bold demonstration of the Governor’s uncommon commitment to the welfare and progress of Nigerian students in Ondo State.”
The students’ body noted that at a time when undergraduates are grappling with the pressures of rising tuition, accommodation costs, and daily living expenses, the intervention comes as a welcome relief and renewed hope.
According to the statement, “This bursary approval is a people-first decision that prioritizes education, reduces the burden on parents, and inspires students to remain focused on their studies without losing hope in government support.”
NANS expressed optimism that the bursary fund will go a long way in motivating indigent students, supporting their academic pursuits, and reinforcing the role of education as the true foundation for sustainable development in the state.
The Ondo JCC leadership also pledged the association’s continuous partnership with the state government, while assuring that NANS will remain the voice that ensures accountability and transparency in the disbursement of the bursary.
“As students, we say a big thank you to Governor Aiyedatiwa. This decision is not just about bursary; it is about investing in the future of Ondo State,” the statement read.
The association urged the government to sustain and expand the intervention in the coming years so that no student in the state is left behind.

  • (No Title)

The writer goofed here. The ondo state governor is not the only governor that is deducting money from his local government. And besides, there is no cause to fight Bunmi Ojo, just that the governor may not like the minister to dictate for him.
How can he insist on appointing three people frrom Okeagbe as GAC member when other towns in the same constituencies do not have? You have a minister, MHoR, Commissioner, SSAs and GAC members in the same town (Okeagbe) Is that a politics of inclusiveness? What happen to the other area within the same constituencies?

Generally, APC is the worst thing to have happened to Nigeria but thank God, everything has an expiry date. There is a timeline for this evil government.

OPINION: Is This What Ondo Really Needs? ‎by Wándé T. Àjàyí

‎For someone like me, a member of the opposition, I should be dancing on the ashes of the APC’s implosion in Ondo State. I should clap as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa wrestles with Abuja shadows, tearing his own party and administration apart. But of what use is politics when development is stagnated? To what end would it be to celebrate when my dear state is forced to endure five years of retardation under a governor more obsessed with massaging his over-bloated ego than birthing a single legacy project? Power without purpose is vanity and Ondo today has been reduced to a theatre of absurd with the Governor as its main actor.

‎Anyone who truly loves this state would not rejoice at the bitter cold war between Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior. What ought to be a partnership for the State’s progress has instead been reduced to a mere gladiatorial contest of egos. To Aiyedatiwa, BTO is not a ladder for Ondo’s advancement but a rival to be crushed, a phantom opponent in a contest yet to be declared. He has refused to leverage Tinubu’s professed starboy for development and instead spends his energy fighting an “Abuja cabal” while ignoring the real battles at home. He is not angry that our cocoa wealth remains largely untapped, that our palm oil economy is not harnessed, that our coastline, the longest in West Africa, lies in waste. His fury is reserved for a hike in passport fees. Is he even aware an attack on BTO is a direct assault on the Tinubu led FG? That is the depth of our Governor’s vision for the State.

‎Meanwhile, governance in Ondo is now a ghost. Projects are flagged off with cameras and fanfare, and abandoned with ease. Contractors disappear, hospitals decay and schools unconducive. Just days ago, our women affairs ministry shamelessly touts Abuja’s crumbs as its scorecard. Our local governments are reduced to beggars, receiving a paltry ₦5 million out of their hundreds of millions in monthly allocations. Transparency and accountability have been buried deeper than oil wells. While you can’t drive anywhere in Ondo State for 5 minutes without having to dodge a pothole, our governor is obsessed with roundabouts. Yet, the governor does not rage at this collapse. He rages instead at imaginary enemies in Abuja, driven by his fear that Bunmi Tunji-Ojo may one day contest against him.

‎Of a truth, I should not be surprised. I foresaw this tragedy and warned my people. This is what happens when a man stumbles upon power without clear vision, when his highest ambition was no more than a House of Reps seat until luck threw him into the Government House. Lucky Aiyedatiwa is a cosmetic governor, obsessed with optics, allergic to substance and terrified of rivals. And so I ask again, is this what Ondo needs? Surely not. Ondo needs builders, not jesters, visionaries, not gamblers. If Uncle Lucky insists on squandering his tenure trembling at the shadow of BTO while ignoring the cries of his people, then let the opposition and the people prepare the banner of rescue. After all, the only project this governor has executed with consistency is his fear of Bunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Show Us The Bonds: ORF Challenges ODSG On Transparency, Issues 7-Day Ultimatum

The Ondo Redemption Front (ORF) has called on the Ondo State Government to make a full disclosure on the status of bond issuance and trading activities undertaken by the State.
In a letter addressed to the Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, the Secretary of the group, Dotun Ajulo, who is also a legal practitioner, invoked the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act to demand clarity on the State’s financial transactions. He noted that the true status of the bond issuance remains unclear, sketchy, and largely undocumented in the public domain, stressing that this falls short of the transparency and accountability expected of public financial undertakings.
The ORF specifically requested that the disclosure should cover the total value and series of bonds issued so far, along with the dates, terms, and maturity periods attached to them. It also asked for details of the issuing houses, trustees, and underwriters involved, as well as the purposes for which the proceeds were raised. Furthermore, the group wanted clarity on the current repayment or liability status of the bonds, in addition to any other relevant information concerning their obligations, servicing, or trading.
Ajulo added that the request was a statutory right under the FOI Act and reminded the government that it has a legal duty to provide the requested information within seven days of receiving the letter. He stressed that the people of Ondo State deserve nothing less than openness in the management of public resources, insisting that transparency and accountability remain the hallmark of good governance.

2027: BTO for PBAT 2027 Vows To Deliver Ondo State For President Tinubu

A political support group, BTO for PBAT 2027, has declared its unwavering commitment to mobilize support across Ondo State for the continuity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu beyond 2027.

The group, convened by Ogbeni Adojutelegan Adesuyi with Adewumi Folajimi serving as spokesperson, operates under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. It has pledged to ensure that Ondo State becomes a stronghold for President Tinubu, citing the president’s developmental strides and governance reforms as the foundation of its resolve.

Speaking on Sunday, the group emphasized that President Tinubu’s administration is steadily stabilizing the economy, tackling security challenges with renewed vigor, and laying a solid framework for long-term prosperity under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the group, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Tunji-Ojo, has been instrumental in aligning Ondo State with the president’s vision, working tirelessly to deliver on reforms and strengthen confidence in the federal government’s programs.

“Our mission is clear: to deliver Ondo State for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” the group said. “The president has shown that he is a leader with the courage and vision to transform Nigeria, and the results are already visible. From bold steps to strengthen the economy, to genuine actions in tackling insecurity, Nigerians can see that hope is being renewed.”

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown the capacity, courage, and vision to reposition Nigeria. His track record of leadership and commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda is a testament to his enduring statesmanship. We, as a group, have resolved to deliver Ondo State for him in 2027,” the group stated.

They further noted that President Tinubu’s developmental policies are already yielding positive results, particularly in economic stabilization and security management, which are critical to national growth.

The group urged residents of Ondo State to remain steadfast in their support for the president, assuring that their collective efforts will secure a brighter future for the state and the nation at large.
